Holder for Charging Cell Phone (made from lotion bottle) My husband and I both have cell phones. And both of us have phone chargers. And that means lots of obnoxious cords. (Okay, and how about when you’re in a hotel or visiting family/friends. I was looking around on the internet for a solution and found this. It made the perfect little holder for my cell phone while it’s being charged. Holder for Charging Cell Phone And no more phone hanging down from the outlet while in this room or that room……..the cord and phone are now up off the ground, and tucked away into the little holder, while the phone drinks up a full charge. And of course I couldn’t just leave the poor little holder alone……I had to Mod Podge some fabric right onto it for some kick. If you look closely, you can see that the orange print is fabric. Centsational Girl & Blog Archive & DIY: Colorful Dessert Stands Hello friends, happy spring, the sun is shining today, at last! There’s just something about sunshine and bright colors that is making me happier this week. I even painted my toes a bright coral yesterday ~ that’s me, livin’ on the edge. Last weekend, I made these sweet little dessert stands for displaying spring and summertime treats when guests come over. They’re frugal, festive, and fabulous ~ my kind of project! Pretty Dessert Stands from Goodwill Plates & Glasses: What You’ll Need: Miscellaneous stemware and dessert plates; household silicone sealant (the kind used for aquariums); frosted glass spray paint; colored spray paint; paper doilies. First, make a stop at your local Goodwill or thrift store. Old fashioned (wide bottom) champagne glasses and martini glasses work well, but go crazy! Remove any price tags and clean your stemware and plates. Give each side of your plates and stemware a good coat, both tops and bottoms. Once your silicone sealant is fully cured, you can do this!
Homemade Laundry Detergent, Charlies & Soap Nuts I have been exploring the world of various natural laundry detergents in my home after choosing to avoid borax in my cleaning, which is a common ingredient in homemade varieties. Most commercial detergents are filled with harsh chemicals and the natural alternatives often contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and other ingredients that are now being debated over their safety. Most commerical detergents leave perfumes (cover scents), brighteners, and/or fabric softeners on your clothes to cover up the fact that the detergent really didn’t clean anything. These additives can easily cause skin irritations. I have found some frugal natural alternatives! Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe adapted from Green Clean by Linda Hunter 1 cup castile liquid soap (Dr. Warm the salt and baking soda in water until mostly dissolved. Please note: do not add essential oils to your detergent. Review: This recipe does clean very well, although I was not impressed by the cleaning job it did on my cloth diapers.
Easy Button Earrings Tutorial Did you know...that you can make new earrings with a button and a paperclip? True story! I've been trying to think of a way for us to make some earrings without having to buy supplies. Buying the beads and all the findings can really add up. :o( Sad. But-oh, what? That still leaves the findings. Clip the top of the paperclip off with wire cutters: Snap off the button shanks: Glue the paperclip to the back of the button. Open the loop at the bottom of your earring hook by bending it outward and hook it onto your paper clip. And...pretty new earrings! Walmart was out of gold sparkly ones (I like gold.) but here are some cute ones I found on Walmart.com(about $1-$2): And some cute ones on Etsy: This Etsy shop has infinity cute buttons, you have to see it. Two ways to reuse your bath puff | Salihan Crafts Blog Posted on Jan 15th, 2010 in Crafts, Knit | 54 comments My bath puff always comes loose after a few weeks and I just end up buying a new one. It seems such a waste. There must be ways to reuse or recycle the bath puff. I unravelled one that was destined for the bin. There was nearly 2 metres of tube netting in that one puff! I’ve seen yarn sleeves made with a similar netting. Photo from Ozquilts.com.au I snipped a small section of the tube netting and stuck my pretty red yarn cake in it. My only concern is that when the ball gets really small, the netting will be too loose for it. Anyway, I still had a lot of netting left. I knitted till I ran out of netting and cast off. I wove the ends in with my fingers and reattached the hanging cord. Now for the test. It aced the pot scrubbing test but how will it go getting machine washed? So there you go! More ideas welcome. Lunes Dream Catcher - How To NOTE: This post was originally published on April 20th, 2011. Supplies: large metal loop (wire macrame hoop) thrifted lacy doily (thinner fibers like doilies made of mercerized cotton work the best) small ball of inexpensive light weight yarn (cotton/poly blend for less fray) clothes pins or clips decorations (feathers, shells, stones, jewelry pieces) Instead of the traditional dream catcher style method of wrapping a loop with leather lacing (see here how to create a traditional dream catcher), I covered the metal hoop with a multi colored light weight yarn. If you've used a knotting method to cover your loop - make sure the braid is straight and decide which side will be the face of your dream catcher. Lay your doily in the center of the hoop to decide which way is up. It's time to start stretching and tying the web of your dreamer. I also left all ties with two loose ends dangling. She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success. Here's how you too can create your own chalkboard paint...
