For Good David Weinberger David Weinberger (born 1950) is an American technologist, professional speaker,[1] and commentator, probably best known as co-author of the Cluetrain Manifesto (originally a website, and eventually a book, which has been described as "a primer on Internet marketing" [2]). Weinberger's work focuses on how the Internet is changing human relationships, communication, and society. A philosopher by training, he holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and taught college from 1980-1986. He was a gag writer for the comic strip "Inside Woody Allen" from 1976-1983.[3] He became a marketing consultant and executive at several high-tech companies, and currently serves as a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School, where he co-teaches a class on "The Web Difference" with John Palfrey. Yet, according to Nielsen figures, the number of homes watching television has actually gone up, with the number of homes using digital video recorders (DVR’s) shooting up by 56 percent between 2007 and 2008 alone. Television is experiencing a resurgence. So what’s going on? The key has been cloud computing and the websites that have taken full advantage of the technology. Take Netflix, Hulu and ABC. And sites like these are still on the rise. The need for server and processing farms to “feed the cloud” has led to a boom in unlimited scalable server farms. The impact has been as unexpected as it is dramatic. This has led to an explosion in the ability of customer relationship management tools to track trends in television viewing habits through the services being provided. Some analysts predict that at some point the Internet and television will merge into one entity, and that may be true.
