LOTS OF PUNS ...A guy goes into a nice restaurant bar wearing a shirt open at the collar and is met by a bouncer who tells him he must wear a necktie to gain admission. So the guy goes out to his car and he looks around for a necktie and discovers that he just doesn't have one. He sees a set of jumper cables in his trunk. In desperation he ties these around his neck, manages to fashion a fairly acceptable looking knot and lets the ends dangle free.

World in 2000 as Predicted in 1910 Illustrations by French artist Villemard in 1910 of how he imagined the future to be in the year 2000. In the 21st century, in order to control traffic jams in the air, there will be more and more flying policemen. Firemen will be equipped with “bat wings” to be able to easily access top floors and roofs. Just one for the road… Wars will be fought by “combat cars”. Schools will be equipped with audio books.

Everybody Jump What would happen if everyone on earth stood as close to each other as they could and jumped, everyone landing on the ground at the same instant? —Thomas Bennett (and many others) This is one of the most popular questions submitted to this blog. It’s been examined before, including by a ScienceBlogs post and a Straight Dope article. They cover the kinematics pretty well. However, they don’t tell the whole story.

Past Meets Present Remember Young Me, Now Me? Photographer Sander Koot has created a similar series, called Back from the Future, where he places old photographs of people next to pictures of their present selves. “In this project, I ask people to find old portraits of themselves, of which they have good memories,” says Koot. “When talking to them about the picture, you see them reliving the happy moment. Only after I know all the details about the past of that picture, (do) we start the shoot." Mini Peanut Butter and Nutella Cheesecakes 28 Dec 2011 One of the perks of being a student (and right now as I’m in the middle of college applications and interviews there don’t seem to be many) is that you get a long Christmas break. This is what I’ve done since Christmas: Stayed in my PJs all day. I got new pajama pants for Christmas (a tradition in my family). They are red with pink polka dots!

A Hollow Shell Of Humanity: College Freshwoman College Freshwoman, daughter of High-Expectations Asian Father and Sheltering Suburban Mom, and sister and peer of College Freshman, is the epitome of unprepared for life on her own. Full of her parents money and a lifetime of soft-landings and parental supervision, college becomes a day camp for the rich and lazy. And so we present, the College Freshwoman meme:

Image of the Day: Aquarium Phonebooth - Food - GOOD - StumbleUpon Lighting designer Benoit Deseille and artist Benedetto Bufalino transformed this phone booth in Lyon, France, into an aquarium, as part of the city's annual Festival of Light. In an accompanying statement, the artists explain the inspiration behind the piece: With the advent of the mobile telephone, telephone booths lie unused. We rediscover this glass cage transformed into an aquarium, full of exotically colored fish; an invitation to escape and travel. It's a creative way to transform disused infrastructure into an everyday source of wonder and beauty—or, if you're of a more pessimistic frame of mind, a vision of our climate-changed future. On top of that, there's something whimsically compelling about seeing tropical fish interacting with a phone: cross-species communication, anyone?

Telephone Songs Useless Office Skill #163 This is for all of you frustrated musicians...who want to turn all of us into frustrated listeners. ...You can play music on your phone by pressing the buttons on the top (1,2,3)...and along the side (6,9,#). The Most Brilliantly Obnoxious Responses To Moronic Graffiti The greatest smart-ass responses to idiotic graffiti. posted 02/16/2013 Bathroom walls give opinionated urinators everywhere a makeshift, bacteria-covered forum for virulent racism, misogyny, homophobia and, worst of all, philosophy. Of course, we'd never advocate one of these obscene acts of vandalism — unless it's a smart-ass response to a previous act of vandalism.
