Easy Drink - Bottle Redesign by Hsu Hsiang-Min, Liu Nai-Wen & Chen Yu-Hsin & Yanko Design The 45-Degree Neck What will happen if we shift the mouth of the bottle from the top to a 45-degree angle? You may not be able to fill it to the brim, and drinking from it may be a bit weird, but filling the bottle from a water cooler or fountain will surely become easy. This simple placement difference can do a heck lot for the packaging design and I think it’s radical and awesome. Designers: Hsu Hsiang-Min, Liu Nai-Wen & Chen Yu-Hsin

John Conways Game of Life The Game The Game of Life is not your typical computer game. It is a 'cellular automaton', and was invented by Cambridge mathematician John Conway. This game became widely known when it was mentioned in an article published by Scientific American in 1970. The Simulation The Rules For a space that is 'populated': Each cell with one or no neighbors dies, as if by solitude. Each cell with four or more neighbors dies, as if by overpopulation. Each cell with two or three neighbors survives. For a space that is 'empty' or 'unpopulated' Each cell with three neighbors becomes populated. The Controls Choose a figure from the pull-down menu or make one yourself by clicking on the cells with a mouse. Java version This page initially contained a Java applet and a Java application you can download. Game of Life Java applet Life is a bit - Edwin Martin <edwin@bitstorm.org>

Elasty - Mobile Phone Cover by Yoori Koo & Yanko Design Simple Slits for Phones This design rings home a bell because right this minute, the inside flap of my iPhone case has a sticky-note to-do list stuck to it! If it was not enough to expect zillions of functions from our smartphones, apparently now their protective covers need to come handy too! This clever silicone rubber case has five slits that are good enough to tuck in bills, pen, stylus or credit cards. Bizarre Websites On Which You Can Kill Time With Style - Smashing Magazine - StumbleUpon ben heine: pencil vs. camera may 25, 2011 ben heine: pencil vs. camera ‘pencil vs. camera’ by ben heine image © ben heine ‘pencil vs. camera’ by ivory coast-born brussels-based photographer ben heine is a series of images that inject hand-drawn pictures within real-life settings to create a composite effect that is often surreal and highly narrative. manipulating the backdrop to host added elements such as real-life tetris blocks, floating speech bubbles, and an alcoholic panda, the photographs are an exercise in manual photoshop, always including heine’s hand which holds up the sketched piece of paper in the foreground. alarmingly accurate and crisply focused, the series puts great care in the alignment and perspective required to successfully pull off the optical illusion. heine creates seemingly effortless snapshots that are highly imaginative and contextual. image © ben heine via mymodernmet erika kim I designboom

Wind Map An invisible, ancient source of energy surrounds us—energy that powered the first explorations of the world, and that may be a key to the future. This map shows you the delicate tracery of wind flowing over the US. The wind map is a personal art project, not associated with any company. We've done our best to make this as accurate as possible, but can't make any guarantees about the correctness of the data or our software. Please do not use the map or its data to fly a plane, sail a boat, or fight wildfires :-) If the map is missing or seems slow, we recommend the latest Chrome browser. Surface wind data comes from the National Digital Forecast Database. If you're looking for a weather map, or just want more detail on the weather today, see these more traditional maps of temperature and wind.
