This Japanese lettuce-growing vending machine has been making the blog-rounds over the last few months, both because it doesn't require sunlight (it uses fluorescent bulbs) and because of the surprising yield it can churn out: 60 heads a day, or over 20,000 a year. DVice explains: The machine, called the Chef's Farm, was developed by Dentsu and can produce 60 heads of lettuce per day (or 20,000 heads per year) grown under 40 watt fluorescent lighting housed in a chrome housing that can be stored conveniently in any restaurant.

El poder del perro MÉXICO, D.F. (apro).- Hace ocho años Don Winslow (Nueva York 1953) escribió El poder del perro, un relato revelador sobre el negocio de las drogas en México. El periodista estadunidense, autor de unas 16 novelas e investigaciones periodísticas, dos de ellas llevadas al cine, describe en El poder del perro uno de los pasajes importantes del narcotráfico en México a través de los Arellano Félix, y en la zaga aparecen el expresidente Carlos Salinas, el obispo Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo y muchos otros personajes identificables, pese al cambio de nombres. El autor no sólo se quedó en la narrativa literaria de este pasaje, sino que tocó las raíces profundas del negocio de las drogas; además, destaca el involucramiento del propio gobierno de Estados Unidos, que usó parte de las ganancias para armar a los grupos contrarrevolucionarios en Centroamérica. Todo este tiempo se le acusó del secuestro, tortura y muerte del agente de la DEA. Los políticos estadunidenses son famosos por su doble moral.
