YTL Residence, Kuala Lumpur Paris-based Agence Jouin Manku took on its first large-scale integrated architectural and interior design commission in 2003, when YTL Design Group from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, invited it to design the residence of a Malaysian power family. Completed in the latter part of 2008, the residence is the ultimate expression of the taste, influence and industrial-scale capabilities of the prominent family whose entrepreneurial activities have shaped Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. Three generations of the family inhabit the 3,000 square-meter residence designed to accommodate both private and public functions. The building includes nine bedrooms, two family rooms, a family kitchen and a private dining area, a family library, a game room, a study, a public reception area, a formal dining room, a ballroom, chapel, 21 bathrooms, a swimming pool, two guest suites plus indoor private and guest parking.

Architecture Math professor Dr. James Stewart, who is also a former violinist with the Hamilton Symphony Orchestra near Toronto, Ontario, has made millions writing calculus textbooks. When he decided to spend most of his fortune on a residence, he could have used any architect anywhere in the world. Instead of an international star, he selected the then-relatively unknown pair, Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe of Shim Sutcliffe to create his residence in a ravine in the posh Toronto neighborhood of Rosedale. Stewart was not looking to build just a residence, though. Browser not supported A long time ago something existed that was not defined by name or known in its form. It blocked the sky and the earth. Making of Neue Nationalgalerie at Night A creative mind, critical eye and honed skills were on Christopher Malheiros’s menu when he dished out those visuals you see here. It seems he didn’t really do much… taken a bad-looking raw render, did a few steps in post and BAMMM! Well… sometimes Less is More! and how great it is being showcased with Mies’s Neue National Gallery as the subject matter. Great concept, great compositions, great coloring and very emotive quality to it.

before & after: trolley depot renovation It’s always been my dream to live in a home with airy, open rooms and lots of exposed bricks, so when this renovation project from Amy came across my desk, I was instantly smitten. Located in Atlanta, this building is about 100 years old and originally served as a trolley depot. Thankfully, Amy and her husband did a wonderful job preserving many of the original details while adding some modern touches that complement the overall aesthetic beautifully. Wonderful job, Amy!

Modern Concrete House (15 photos) - My Modern Metropolis - StumbleUpon When you first think about the words concrete house, you might imagine a cold, sterile environment, perhaps something similar to a prison. If that's the case, this one story house designed by architecture studio A-cero will likely change your mind. Located on the outskirts of Madrid, Concrete House II features a façade that boasts a spectacular view of the whole house. The first impression that visitors usually get is that the building seems to be hidden between concrete walls and ramps that extend up to the roof.

The Luxury 35th Street Home by Lazar Design/Build The Luxury 35th Street Home by Lazar Design/Build The luxury 35th Street Home by Lazar Design/Build on Manhattan Beach, California is Steve Lazar’s recent project is a contemporary home he designed for his family in Manhattan Beach. While ascending a series of Mangaris wood steps, one walks alongside a river of water flowing over riverbed stones that lead to the entrance of the home. The entire three-story structure is comprised of stained and polished Mangaris wood, and the immediate impression is that the visitor has just arrived at an island resort. Inspiration from the islands is apparent throughout his design, as this home would be just as comfortable in Maui as it is in Manhattan Beach. It is well poised to take advantage of coastal breezes from all direction.

Sky Garden House - Architecture Linked - Architect &Architectural Social... - StumbleUpon I think one of the reasons that many are skeptical about environmental design is because they think its terribly complex and costly. It does take a bit more effort on the front end, but it's definitely not rocket science. This architecture by Guz Architects is a wonderfully developed minimalistic design with a curvilinear flare that really brings out the organic coverings. I'm most impressed with how design facilitates the needs of the plants and shrubs located throughout the house. See more at Guz Architects
