STEVE McQUEEN | LE MANS & BEYOND GRATUITOUS 1970s RACING GOODNESS Steve McQueen at the legendary 1970 12 Hours of Sebring Race where McQueen (partnered with c0-driver Peter Revson) raced with a broken left foot in a cast against racing great, Mario Andretti. McQueen is sporting his iconic ’67 Rolex Submariner that went for $234,000 at auction in 2009. BTW – Anyone else feeling the “Brian Johnson AC/DC ” vibe here with the black leather 8-panel cap? Steve McQueen’s 1971 epic, Le Mans, is the racecar film that is widely hailed as the gold standard for which all such films are measured– now, and certainly well into the future. It was filmed largely live at the actual 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, without the benefit of computer generated imagery and modern day trickery that we rely on today. It feels raw because it is raw. In preparation for the filming of the movie “Le Mans”, Steve McQueen went to the 1969 race to scout filming spots around the Le Mans course. 1970 — Steve McQueen at Sebring hanging out with Carroll Shelby. 1970 — Steve McQueen at Sebring

Inexplicable Superconductor Fractals Hint at Higher Universal Laws | Wired Science What seemed to be flaws in the structure of a mystery metal may have given physicists a glimpse into as-yet-undiscovered laws of the universe. The qualities of a high-temperature superconductor — a compound in which electrons obey the spooky laws of quantum physics, and flow in perfect synchrony, without friction — appear linked to the fractal arrangements of seemingly random oxygen atoms. Those atoms weren’t thought to matter, especially not in relation to the behavior of individual electrons, which exist at a scale thousands of times smaller. The findings, published Aug. 12 in Nature, are a physics equivalent of discovering a link between two utterly separate dimensions. “We don’t know the theory for this,” said physicist Antonio Bianconi of Rome’s Sapienza University. Unlike semiconductors, the metals on which modern electronics rely, superconductors allow electrons to pass through without resistance. “Everyone was looking at these materials as ordered and homogeneous,” said Bianconi.

Untitled Tumblr Theme Untitled Mag Theme Headline: A Free Customizable Tumblr Theme – Page 1 6:41 pm - Fri, Jan 11, 2013 3 notes It’s been over 2 years since Headline was released, and I’m thankful to the 9,000+ users who have installed it. Things sure have changed over that time, yet Headline has remained the same. That being said, I’m thinking about completely rebuilding the theme from scratch. Post your thoughts, comments, feedback, and love letters in the Disqus thread below or fire away at @ckalima on Twitter. 5:03 am - Thu, Apr 14, 2011 7 notes During the last 12 months, we’ve received a number of emails regarding Headline’s search box. As Tumblr continues to grow (explosively), the search indexing issue seems to be growing with it. If you’ve got the zero result blues, we recommend voicing your concerns on Tumblr’s Get Satisfaction page to let them know search is important to you. 7:52 am - Fri, Feb 25, 2011 1 note Q: how do i make archives page like your, please? boneflytravel 7:51 am Q: Is there a way to add a picture on the right panel? theangeladee 6:26 am - Mon, Feb 14, 2011

Access Your iDevice Like an IT Ninja with Phone Disk [Review Phone Disk, from Macroplant, is a utility for Mac OS X (and Windows) that runs quietly in the background on your computer until you plug-in an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad using a USB sync cable. Plugging in your favorite iDevice causes Phone Disk to seamlessly mount the iOS file system on that device to your computers file system. Once mounted you can directly access the files on that device using Finder (and Windows explorer) or any other program. You’ll be interested in this application if you’re an IT Ninja looking for another good troubleshooting utility to carry around or you’re simply curious about the data that resides on your favorite iDevice. Phone Disk Preferences. What’s Good? Phone Disk mounted my iPhone 4 and Angry Birds app folder. What’s Bad? Phone Disk gives you an option labeled Change Connection Root that allows you to open a new disk mounting point linked to an iOS app’s folder. Conclusion Rating: Cult of Mac Black Turtleneck rating system: 5: Insanely Great! Related

Yakuza 3 reviewed by Yakuza Played, reviewed and fact-checked. With the Yakuza. Several months ago, I introduced you to Jake Adelstein, the fearless-to-a-fault Jewish-American reporter who spent 12 years as a crime beat reporter in Japan and wrote about it in his book Tokyo Vice. It's a Thursday afternoon in Tokyo, and I'm sitting in the reception area of a real estate rental agency playing a video game. This spring, Sega USA released Yakuza 3, the US version of the popular yakuza simulation/action game Ryu Ga Gotoku 3. As a game for katagi (yakuza slang for "civilians" or "non-yakuza"), it's tremendous fun — but what do the yakuza think of this game? I enlist the aid of a teenager to show the yaks how to actually play a videogame. Except for some hamonjo — notices of expulsion of a yakuza member circulated amongst yakuza groups — taped to the wall above the couch, this could be a waiting room at the Sony headquarters. M: I've never been to Okinawa, but Kabukicho is dead on. S: Nobody ever dies.
