Steve McQueen at the legendary 1970 12 Hours of Sebring Race where McQueen (partnered with c0-driver Peter Revson) raced with a broken left foot in a cast against racing great, Mario Andretti. Steve McQueen’s 1971 epic, Le Mans, is the racecar film that is widely hailed as the gold standard for which all such films are measured– now, and certainly well into the future. It was filmed largely live at the actual 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, without the benefit of computer generated imagery and modern day trickery that we rely on today. It feels raw because it is raw. Inexplicable Superconductor Fractals Hint at Higher Universal Laws | Wired Science
What seemed to be flaws in the structure of a mystery metal may have given physicists a glimpse into as-yet-undiscovered laws of the universe. The qualities of a high-temperature superconductor — a compound in which electrons obey the spooky laws of quantum physics, and flow in perfect synchrony, without friction — appear linked to the fractal arrangements of seemingly random oxygen atoms. Those atoms weren’t thought to matter, especially not in relation to the behavior of individual electrons, which exist at a scale thousands of times smaller. The findings, published Aug. 12 in Nature, are a physics equivalent of discovering a link between two utterly separate dimensions. “We don’t know the theory for this,” said physicist Antonio Bianconi of Rome’s Sapienza University. Unlike semiconductors, the metals on which modern electronics rely, superconductors allow electrons to pass through without resistance. “Everyone was looking at these materials as ordered and homogeneous,” said Bianconi.

This spring, Sega USA released Yakuza 3, the US version of the popular yakuza simulation/action game Ryu Ga Gotoku 3. As a game for katagi (yakuza slang for "civilians" or "non-yakuza"), it's tremendous fun — but what do the yakuza think of this game? I enlist the aid of a teenager to show the yaks how to actually play a videogame. Except for some hamonjo — notices of expulsion of a yakuza member circulated amongst yakuza groups — taped to the wall above the couch, this could be a waiting room at the Sony headquarters.
