Fabric Wall Art Make a triple trio of fabric-covered wall plaques to add spice and splash to a special space in your home. Designer Tari Colby wrapped three fabrics over artist's canvas squares and secured the fabric using a staple gun to make this quick, easy, and inexpensive textile display.Although Tari used 6x6-inch prestretched canvases as the foundation for this project, you can use any size for your wall art. Cut fabric 1-1/2 inches larger than your canvas on all sides.Wrap excess fabric to the back of the canvas frame, pulling it taut and smooth. Staple to the frame beginning at the center of each side and moving to the corners. Miter the corners and secure with staples. For a finish that's impervious to dust and moisture, Tari recommends brushing two coats of decoupage medium onto the fabric surface. Royal Throw Feel like royalty wrapped in this beautiful faux-suede throw embellished with a screen-printed crown and delicate black trim.

DIY: How To Make Rose Water
UPDATE: This post originally ran on January 31st 2013, but with Spring around the corner we wanted to share it again! Valentine’s Day is just a couple of weeks away and it’s a time to show the special people in your life how much you love them…but it’s also a great time to pamper yourself! Loving and taking care of yourself is always important, and this DIY will help you do just that. Rose water was first made by chemists in the Islamic Golden Age as a perfume and beverage, and in the years since it has become quite popular for a number of uses. Most commonly it is used as a toner or body spray for the skin – the natural fragrance and moisturizing properties make it especially refreshing. What you need: fresh roses, a large pot and distilled water. There are a couple of ways to make rose water. Start by plucking the petals from the roses – you won’t need the bulb or stems. Place the rose petals in a large pot and fill with just enough distilled water to cover the rose petals.
Flea Market Chic Home Accents
Architectural Look Pediments that once graced the facades of stately homes might not have a place on your home's exterior, but they can make quite the statement inside your home. Hang an old pediment as wall art, or turn it in to something functional, such as a coatrack. Install hooks on the piece and hang it in an entryway or mudroom. Shop Smart When you're on the hunt for flea market and secondhand treasures, it's important to shop smart. Follow these principles to help you spot amazing finds. Dress It Up Tuck an old dressmaker's form into a bedroom corner as a sculpturelike addition to the room.
DIY Natural Dyes – How To Make Natural Dyes
Update: This post originally ran on September 21st 2011 but we wanted to bring it back as a reminder of how fun and environmentally friendly natural dyes are! It’s time to share the results of my natural dye experiment! This was such a fun project – I definitely recommend it as a great rainy day activity :) For my first experiment I used beets, onion skins and spinach. While the spinach did not work (as one reader also mentioned after my previous post) I was really pleased with the beets and onion skins! The beets were such a beautiful deep red color! For the onions, I peeled off the skins and used only that part – I have seen other examples of this online that yielded really nice results but I was actually doubtful that this would really work. I had high hopes for the spinach… if anyone has tried this with spinach and gotten good results let me know what your secret is :) After bringing each ingredient to a boil, I let them simmer for an hour while I prepared the fabrics to dye.
From Flea Market Finds to Savvy Storage
Jewelry Storage Organize your jewelry in a vintage printer's tray. Give the tray a fresh coat of paint, and line the back of the compartments with pretty papers. Screw brass hooks into each compartment to hang baubles. To make space for necklaces and bracelets, use a hammer to remove a few slats.
