10 Mind-Blowing Theories That Will Change Your Perception of the World Reality is not as obvious and simple as we like to think. Some of the things that we accept as true at face value are notoriously wrong. Scientists and philosophers have made every effort to change our common perceptions of it. The 10 examples below will show you what I mean. 1. Great glaciation is the theory of the final state that our universe is heading toward. 2. Solipsism is a philosophical theory, which asserts that nothing exists but the individual’s consciousness. Don’t you believe me? As a result, which parts of existence can we not doubt? 3. George Berkeley, the father of Idealism, argued that everything exists as an idea in someone’s mind. The idea being that if the stone really only exists in his imagination, he could not have kicked it with his eyes closed. 4. Everybody has heard of Plato. In addition to this stunning statement, Plato, being a monist, said that everything is made of a single substance. 5. 6. Enternalism is the exact opposite of presentism. 7. 8. 9. 10.

Encrypting Pictures Using Chaotic Cellular Automata It’s been more than ten years now since the idea emerged of using chaos to encrypt messages. The approach is straightforward. Start with a message, superimpose it on a chaotic signal and send. Today, Marina Jeaneth Machicao and a few pals at the University of San Paul in Brazil reveal a straightforward way of extending this method to images. Their idea is to use a cellular automaton to generate a pseudorandom signal. The trick, of course, is to find a rule that generates a pseudorandom output so that the resulting grid looks like noise. These guys examine a number of automata to see which generates the most random output. One crucial point is that the output of this automata is precisely determined by its starting state. That’s important because they say this starting state can act as a password. So here’s how it works. A receiver with the correct password can view the image by carrying out the procedure in reverse. The problem is this.

Cristal, No Lines, And Table Service — How to Hack the Club Scene This is a guest post by Charlie Houpert, co-founder of Charisma On Command, a company dedicated to helping men become their best selves. (This post is geared towards men living/partying in big cities like NYC, LA, Vegas, and Miami. For all the female readers, getting into clubs and drinking for free is mostly a matter of dressing well, wearing heels, and letting the promoters find you.) If you’re like I used to be, you only make it out to exclusive clubs on those BIG nights. You walk in and the place is bumping. If you’re like me, you’ll probably dance your tail off and have a blast. Good news: I have the cure to at least one of those hangovers! A little background: I was sleeping on a friend’s floor when I moved to NYC and I was still going out 4+ nights per week and getting VIP treatment at NYC’s most exclusive clubs. You will be able to hack clubs. But first, if you want to hack the system, you have to know how it works. How Clubs Work Reputation is everything for a club. Getting in

Top 10 TED Talks Every Guy Should See Become a fan of TED Talks and you’ll quickly get sucked down a rabbit hole of videos, podcasts and mind-expanding information. They can expose you to new ideas and entertain you in the process, but not every TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Talk is really all that good. In fact, some are really, really boring. We picked out 10 good ones that we think every guy should either watch or listen to at some point in their life. “Are We Born To Run?” by Christopher McDougall First of all, if you haven’t read McDougall’s book, “Born to Run,” do so, it’s the most entertaining book about running, booze, and chia seeds you’ll ever read. “Choice, Happiness and Spaghetti Sauce” by Malcolm Gladwell Every book Malcolm Gladwell puts out blows up for good reason. “How I Held My Breath For 17 Minutes” by David Blaine What makes David Blaine the world’s most intriguing magician is the creativity of his performances. “Philosophy in Prison” by Damon Horowitz “Underwater Astonishments” by David Gallo J.J.

A 'fancy' serial number can make a $1 bill worth thousands If you’ve ever read the eight-digit serial number on a dollar bill, it was probably to play liar’s poker—or out of sheer boredom. But those digits are more than a passing diversion to a thriving online community, for whom they can take on a near-mystical significance. At CoolSerialNumbers.com, Nashville musician and currency collector Dave Undis brings together like-minded digit-heads who have little interest in the history of money or even the denomination of a given note. Low serial numbers, from 00000001 to 00000100, are sought after, as well as palindromes (23599532), solids (with a digit that repeats eight times), seven-of-a-kinds (66666665), ladders (45678901) and important dates (12071941). Which is too bad when you consider how much these fancy numbers can sell for—quite a bit more than the bill’s face value, in some cases. So the next time you’re about to pay the bartender or grocery store clerk, take a minute to examine your cash. H/T Boston.com | Photo by 401(K) 2012/Flickr
