Webmaster level: All At Google we're obsessed with speed. We've long known that even seemingly minor speed increases can have surprisingly large impacts on user engagement and happiness. About a year ago we rolled out Instant Pages in pursuit of that goal. Instant Pages makes use of prerendering technology in Chrome to make your site appear to load instantly in some cases, with no need for any extra work on your part. Create realistic type on wood
In this tutorial we are going to take some regular text and add some effects to make it look like it has been painted or printed on wood. This is a great way to give your text that natural look. This can be applied to any solid shape, text, images, logos, etc. What we are going to need Adobe Photoshop Wood Texture Step 1 Open up the wood texture from Zen Textures in Photoshop. Go to Image>Image Size and change the width to 1200px and make sure the resolution is at 72 pixels/inch. Step 2 Using the Type Tool (T), create some white text that will roughly fit the width of the document (leaving some space on the edges). Using the Crop Tool (C) crop the top and bottom edges so they have a small margin around the text, about the same amount as the sides or a little more. Step 3 Click on the eye icon to the left of the text layer to make the text disappear. Go to File>Save, and save it as a Photoshop file. Step 4 Make sure you have the background layer selected. Now go to Image>Adjustments>Threshold.
Google Hack To See If Your Site Was Hit By Penguin? -BRAND
Here is one more crazy thing for the Penguin Igloo - a search hack that may show you if you were hit by the Penguin update! The news came from a WebmasterWorld thread this morning by a Junior Member who was hit by Penguin codenamed Martin Ice Web. He said that when he was searching for his keywords and added a negative parameter for amazon, his rankings went back to normal. For example, he search for [blue widget -amazon] and his rankings pre-Penguin showed up on Google for the query [blue widget]. I tried this myself on a ton of examples of sites that were hit in the forums and I was unable to replicate it to the extreme but it does kind of work. For example, a Google Webmaster Help thread has the owner of discounted-hotels-london.co.uk saying that [strand palace hotel -amazon.com] brings up his site on page one. This is pretty wild! I tried it on some others but failed. This seems so weird. So who knows?
