Understanding Heidegger's The Question Concerning Technology Introduction It has always been my conviction that the basic insights of the great philosophers can be rendered in pleasing, non-technical prose for everyone to understand. The great ideas arise as a result of experienced reality, a reality shared by everyone. When one strips away the technical language--important in some contexts, but not in others--one is left with that way of seeing and understanding a lived reality that is within the reach of any moderately intelligent mind. In this way I am trying to render Heidegger's The Question Concerning Technology, a nearly-impenetrable text to the uninitiated. Leaving the various historical influences on Heidegger aside--Kant, Hegel, Brentano, Husserl--I shall be focusing entirely on what the core insight of Heidegger's essay is, an insight which is beautiful and thoroughly comprehensible by the intelligent reader. Revealing At the heart of Heidegger's insight is that what constitutes truth has been limited in the history of the Western world.
Aquaponics Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil). The wastes from the fish are broken down by bacteria living in the growing medium, and converted into a form that can be used by the plants. Integrated Vertical Tube System Here's a drawing and a photo of the integrated vertical tube aquaponics system we built. I made the drawing using Google SketchUp, a great free 3-D drawing program. To make the grow tubes, I cut slots across with a hack saw and then heated the plastic with a heat gun to soften it. The PVC caps on the bottom of the tubes have slots cut around the edges with a table saw, so that any water that might drip out around the plants can just run down the outside of the tube and through the slots. The photo below shows the top of the system, with the flow control valves that regulate the flow of water to each tube. Now, he qualifies his religious views by saying he doesn’t vote against contraception “because it’s not the taking of a human life” (in other contexts he has emphasized that as a legal matter he has no problem with contraception). In any event, this sort of thing undermines Santorum’s electability argument. Michael Tellinger: 200,000 Year Old Cities Discovered In Africa that Confirm Zecharia Sitchin’s Writings [video] In this fascinating interview with George Noory, scientist and author Michael Tellinger discusses his study of ancient ruins at the southern tip of Africa that are over 200,000 years old. Tellinger believes that the area was once inhabited by ET visitors known as (from the works of Zecharia Sitchin) the Annunaki, who came to Earth to mine gold.
