yWriter5 - Free writing software
yWriter is a powerful writing program which is free to download and use. yWriter is a word processor which breaks your novel into chapters and scenes, helping you keep track of your work while leaving your mind free to create. It will not write your novel for you, suggest plot ideas or perform creative tasks of any kind. yWriter was designed by an author, not a salesman! yWriter5 is free to download and use, but you're encouraged to register your copy if you find it useful. If you're just embarking on your first novel a program like yWriter may seem like overkill. I mean, all you have to do is type everything into a word processor! (Although yWriter was designed for novels, enterprising users have created their own translation files to customise the program to work with plays, non-fiction and even sermons.) I'm Simon Haynes, the designer and programmer. "Hands down the easiest and most versatile writing software I've tried and used"M. You'll find the yWriter facebook page here. Categories:

The Swivet: All new & revised: On word counts and novel length DISCLAIMER: This post was written in 2008, and revised in 2010. The publishing industry has changed drastically in that time, and word counts aren't nearly as rigid nor as important as they once were, especially for writers who are now producing e-original content. Additionally, novellas are now routinely being published by larger publishers, whereas in 2008 they were not. So if you are using this very old post, please bear in mind that at best, these are suggestions only, and suggestions from 2008 at that. Also, I am no longer an agent and haven't been for many years.

StoryView StoryView "Usually, I don't buy into the software developers' self-aggrandizing hype; but it turns out they are being modest. For writers, this program rocks!" Damned if You Do, Damned if You Don’t Lately, I have heard several published white writers express their trepidation about the idea of writing non-white characters. Some of them have mentioned that they feel they’ll get in trouble if they continue to write only white characters, but that they also feel they’ll get into trouble if they write characters who aren’t white cause they’ll bugger it up. Damned if you do, they say, damned if you don’t. To which I can only say, and I mean this nicely, “Please!” Writing Software We know some very experienced scriptwriters who bash out their scripts using Microsoft Word.
