TED videos have been making the rounds online for a couple of years now. I have personally shared several of them here and I am still amazed by the new ones that are released from time to time.TED is a video resource that I consider as a must for all educators and teachers to use. There are hundreds of videos you can share with your students and all of which are student friendly. Anyway, today as I was browsing through my emails I found this article : " the 20 most watched TED Talks ".
The 5 Cs to Developing Your Personal Learning Network
In the 21st century teachers are no longer the sole imparters of information. Instead their role shifts to empowering students to learn independently in part by developing personal learning networks in areas of passions, talents, and interests. Not only are these real-world connections valuable, they enable learning to move from the preparation for life to the living of life by providing individuals with access to learners, leaders and experts around the world bringing together communities, resources and information impossible to access solely from within school walls. The five Cs below will empower educators to discover how they and their students can begin building personal learning networks specific to the learner’s needs extending relevant learning connections to like-interested people around the globe.
Rethinking Curriculum
Recently I was visiting some friends who are also teachers who got me thinking about the words "21st century skills". It's interesting to question whether, at this point just 11 years into the 21st century, we really know what skills student will need to be successful in the future. My friends asked me if 100 years ago, in 1911, teachers could have predicted the skills that their students would need to be successful at the end of the 20th century. I thought that probably they could not have done this.
10 Web 2.0 Tools for Recording Learning
At next week's staff meeting I'm running a session for all the teachers who are not involved in maths planning - these are basically the specialist teachers who are teaching subjects such as PE, music and German. This session will look at what Web 2.0 tools these teachers can use for recording student learning. It's quite a diverse group so I want to come up with different tools that will appeal to them all.

Another year is coming to a close. And with the New Year approaching, it’s a great time to reflect on topics and issues that impacted our learning in 2011. I traveled all over the country again in 2011 speaking to K-12 educators on the power that video can have on student learning. I have personally witnessed the amazing influence video has had on my own students’ learning during my past nine years in education. 2011 was no exception in the diverse and powerful videos that some of our world leaders, or future world leaders, created. Therefore, I have decided to list the top 10 educational videos I watched this past year. Now, I will concede that there may be better videos in our global stratosphere.
