aM laboratory www.onetrippass.com/blog/ Colt Miller and Logan Caldbeck of Corbra Rock Boot Company show us how they make their beautiful and unique South Highland leather boots out of thier shop in the small West Texas desert town of Marfa. When furniture designer and maker Joey Benton of Marfa, Texas had a surplus of beautiful leather left over from a job, he made lemonade by making sandals inspired by footwear of the past, where there were no left and right. Here he explains the idea behind the sandal’s design and speaks about the wild possibilities and limitations that are part of living in the remote west texas desert town of Marfa, Texas. Primo Carrasco supplies the soundtrack and demonstrates how to break in these beautiful sandals and make them your own. Last year while touring the country with her husband Chap, Maura Ambrose had a 1970 VW camper van induced vision of what she wanted out of life and that vision was is the name of natural dyes and quilting. Someone made sure I saw Bobby Furst’s place before leaving JT.

Illustrations Of Unusual And Rarely Spoken Words Recumbentibus—A knockout punch, either verbal or physical. The Irish illustration duo of James and Michael Fizgarald, or also known as The Project Twins, have come up with a series of illustrations that visually represent rarely spoken and heard of words. In their series called ‘A-Z of Unusual Words’, the meaning of the words have been visually defined in the form of a whimsical poster—which can be purchased on their website. Here are some of their ‘informative’ posters:

No doubt the best book we’ve read that covers the subject is ‘Through The Language Glass’ by Guy Deutscher, which goes a long way to explaining and understanding these loopholes — the gaps which mean there are leftover words without translations, and concepts that cannot be properly explained across cultures. Somehow narrowing it down to just a handful, we’ve illustrated 11 of these wonderful, untranslatable, if slightly elusive, words.

Clean Up Your Diet and Lose Weight (Page 3) Out with you... refined grains. Why? The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that we get at least half of our grains from whole grains. DIY Cocktails This recipe uses “The Life of the Party” cocktail ratio from my book (3 parts strong, 2 parts sweet, 1 part sour). It’s the same one you’d use to make a Margarita, but this drink is nothing like a Margarita! Bourbon, apples, and tea … it all sounds so Southern (as in The South and not South of the Border). The flavors combine well for a lightly sweet and herbal cocktail with the heat of bourbon. Bourbon Apple Tea Time 1 1/2 oz. bourbon 1 oz. honey-tea-apple syrup* 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
