Handy 'Flat Design' iPhone / iPad UI Templates A couple of months back I featured some pretty cool examples of flat web design trend, I find myself rather enjoying the simplicity of some the flat UI’s designers are creating. Swiss Federal Design Awards - Michael Kryenbühl / Ivan Weiss We are all familiar with Aki Kaurismäki's authentic everyday heroes: the taciturn garbage collectors, the dreaming supermarket checkout girls, the reclusive night watchmen. These melancholy, solitary figures are found not only in Finland, but represent the universal human being and the (sometimes rough and ready) vagaries of life. In their 272-page book Akilandia, created as a graduate piece at Lucerne University, Michael Kryenbühl and Ivan Weiss combine their collected impressions of eleven weeks spent studying Kaurismäki's cinematic world. They have called that world Akilandia and they guide the viewer through the films of the Finnish director. As in a film, the content of Akilandia is conveyed by the dramatic structure and sequencing of the images. The book is made up for the most part of a wide variety of visual material.

Although this trend has become nearly ubiquitous, let’s take a moment to consider how we got here and what influence it’s having on interface design as a whole. Additionally, I’ll share some tips and considerations on designing flat interfaces. Max Rudberg - ✎ How you should look in iOS 7 ✎ How you should look in iOS 7 iOS 7 puts its emphasis on motion, and the visual UI design recedes to let the content and feel take room. While the OS itself isn’t finished, the thinking behind it and the direction they’re headed is clear. We’re working on a new app and updates to our existing apps in Filibaba. Wayfinding & signage The Barbican Arts Centre is one of the largest arts, conference and exhibition venues in Europe. Since its opening in 1982 it had suffered from a lack of wayfinding clarity. Cartlidge Levene and Studio Myerscough were commissioned to develop a new wayfinding and signage strategy as part of a major refurbishment of its public spaces to make the foyer navigable and welcoming. Working as part of an integrated team, with architects AHMM, we built on their rationalisation of entrances and realignment of routes to develop a wayfinding strategy that heightens intuitive understanding of the space. Double Identity The new museum, on the other hand, presents a programme that integrates the present, past and future of the design arts in Barcelona. A simple line perfectly symbolises a place of interaction, engagement and connection. It creates a link between the city, the past and the future, connecting the multiple design networks in a single building: The Design Museum and the main design associations that are hosted inside the building, the BCD (Barcelona Design Council), the FAD (Foster in Arts & Design) and the Documentation Centre. In a nutshell, we used a flexible and dynamic line as a graphic device to tie the whole scheme together.
