Make Your Own Soap: Grapefruit Mint Poppyseed Bars – A Beautiful Mess I've always been intrigued by the world of soap making. Choosing your own ingredients to make your own special scent, adding colors and textures to make it aesthetically pleasing, and then getting to share those goodies with friends and family just sounds like the best thing ever. I'll admit that I've been an admirer for some time, but the thought of taking on another hobby that can be very involved was pretty intimidating … until I heard about melt-and-pour soap bases, that is. Craft stores sell soap bases that you literally heat up in your microwave (or on your stove top) and then add whatever ingredients you want to customize your own soap bars. Now THAT I can get on board with. Ingredients:-10 oz goat's milk melt-and-pour soap base (sold at local craft stores or on Amazon )-1 grapefruit (only zest half the grapefruit)-1 tbsp poppy seeds-10 drops of grapefruit essential oil-4 drops of mint essential oil Step One: Cut your soap base into cubes.

Richly satisfying to body and mind. Great for healing dry skin, and Earthy Apothecary: Making your own Rosewater, Without Distilling This tutorial will detail how to make your own Rosewater, without distilling. This method makes more like a rose tea, with a beautiful dark pink color. Rosewater is an amazingly beneficial addition to your skin care routine. It can be used to cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin. I'm often too lazy to properly clean my face and I find that a little rosewater on a cotton ball keeps my acne prone skin surprisingly happy. I usually use a mix if rosewater and witch hazel. I picked my rose petals from my own garden, so I know they are pesticide free. Now because I'm making a product for sale, it is really important to sterilize everything and to use distilled water. I fill my jar all the way up with boiling water (make sure your jar is heat safe). Once your jar is full, put the lid on and leave it until it cools. When I get down to the bottom, and it seems like there's no water left, I scoop the rose petals out into the cheesecloth, fold it up and squeeze. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

Homemade citrus coconut soap Making homemade soap is one of those crafts that sounds intimidating, doesn’t it? You picture yourself slaving over a stove, scorching your fingers pouring hot soap into tiny molds. But fear not! Homemade soap is actually one of the most insanely simple things to do at home. If you have a microwave, then you’re all set. And if you like knowing what goes into your cleaning products, especially the ones you use on your skin, definitely give this homemade soap a try. The fun part of making homemade soap is playing around with different recipes. 1/3 of a block of shea butter soap base. Melt the soap base in a microwave safe container (I like to use Pyrex measuring cups for easy pouring) in the microwave in 30 second intervals. Mix together well and pour into a container. Let the soap harden for about an hour and then pop it out of the container. What flavors would you use? (Visited 33,837 times, 178 visits today) Stephanie Gerber

DIY Coconut Coffee Scrub | HelloGlow.co My freezer has been working overtime this week. First I froze these amazingly simple garbage disposal refresher cubes (happy dance) and then made frozen coconut coffee scrub cubes. Did you catch that? It’s a solid coconut oil cube with coffee grounds in it. The perfect size. Go ahead, sit down a minute. You already know that coconut oil is like the 8th wonder of the world. And the caffeine in coffee grounds is a genius way to reduce cellulite. And you will waste so much less oil with these handy cubes. Once they have hardened you can pop them out and store in a Ziploc or something. And while you’re at it, you might as well put some on your face too. I found a different another version of a coffee mask on Crunchy Betty, and she is totally right about a couple of things: Coffee is kinda messy so combine the scrub and mask into one shower so you only have to clean up coffee grounds once. This is an adapted version of Jessica’s recipe, which calls for 1/2 cup of yogurt.
