Ronald Brown is a successful startup CEO with an extensive background in technology and consumer marketing. His new book, Anticipate. The Architecture of Small Team Innovation and Product Success is available via iTunes, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo. Who drives product innovation? The answer is small, entrepreneurial development teams — better known as "agile teams" in the high-tech industry. These types of teams are obviously essential for startups, but many large companies approach team-building in the same way, especially those that lead the industry in terms of product revenue. 10 projection mapping demos that will blow your mind! | Digital art A few years ago, video projection mapping (aka spatial augmented reality, or projecting video onto 3D surfaces such as buildings) was a fledgling art form, with a handful of noteworthy examples. Now, a head-turning projection is par for the course for any building opening, product launch, award ceremony or even a big birthday party (if it's good enough for the Queen). Inspiring examples of 3D art Video projection mapping has the capacity to transform any object into a screen. Events combine motion graphics, 3D, animation, and video to playfully highlight, deconstruct, rotate, recontextualise and generally manipulate a building's usual geometry. Often site-specific, the best work enhances rather than effaces the architecture it's projected onto. We've picked our favourite examples of projection mapping that you must see, ranging from O2's stunning rose, to micro projections on the petals of a flower, to an incredible display the full height of the Sagrada Familia. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06.

HBR - Accomplish More by Doing Less by Tony Schwartz | 7:40 AM December 13, 2011 Two people of equal skill work in the same office. For the sake of comparison, let’s say both arrive at work at 9 am each day, and leave at 7 pm. Bill works essentially without stopping, juggling tasks at his desk and running between meetings all day long. Nick, by contrast, works intensely for approximately 90 minutes at a stretch, and then takes a 15 minute break before resuming work. Bill spends 10 hours on the job. By 1 pm, Bill is feeling some fatigue. It’s called the law of diminishing returns. Nick puts in the same 10 hours. Nick takes off a total of two hours during his 10 at work, so he only puts in 8 hours. Because Nick is more focused and alert than Bill, he also makes fewer mistakes, and when he returns home at night, he has more energy left for his family. It’s not just the number of hours we sit at a desk in that determines the value we generate. There’s plenty of evidence that increased rest and renewal serve performance.

Infographic Of The Day: Walmart Dwarfs Entire Industries And Nations | Co. Design Walmart is always good for destroying your faith in humanity on Black Friday, and this year was no exception: By day’s end, reports emerged from stores across the country of biblical struggles over waffle makers, pepper-spraying, and even at least one shooting. Maybe if shoppers took a closer look at Walmart’s business doings they wouldn’t be so willing to whip out legal airborne torture for a bargain Xbox. Or maybe they would, I don’t know. The superpower analogy might sound like a rhetorical device, but Walmart really does resemble a nation (albeit a miserly dictatorship where no one would ever want to live). Walmart has something else in common with certain nations: astronomical income inequality.

The Happiness Project Microsoft A Victim Of Its Own Success - Global-cio - Executive insights/interviews For all its cash and market advantages, Microsoft is a company in decline. There's a wonderful article in Vanity Fair this month by Kurt Eichenwald, "Microsoft's Lost Decade," which details the cannibalistic culture that took Microsoft from invulnerable to highly vulnerable. Ten years ago, we all were echoing that Microsoft had all the applications, all the operating system revenue, and all the talent, and so was an impregnable fortress. It would swat all competitors like so many mosquitoes. And we were dead wrong. Fifteen years ago, we were saying the same thing about IBM. Eichenwald puts the blame squarely on CEO Steve Ballmer and makes the case that his talents lay not in technology, but in sales/marketing and other assorted alleged skills. [ If IT organizations don't get their act together, the best and brightest will chart their own destinies. Those who had gotten rich either physically or mentally checked out. The second behavior of the Microsofties was even more insidious.
