Paper gems (+ templates)
This has got to be one of my favourite projects to date…which is a good job because I nearly broke my brain putting the templates together!! I’m not so good at maths and figuring out angles (my lovely Mum is a retired maths teacher so I should know better!). By the way this project is quite fiddly so more aimed at grown-ups or older kids. My paper gems were very influenced by these wonderful crayons (via Deborah’s Pinterest board). You can use these paper gems as hanging decorations (for your Christmas tree) or you can incorporate them into a mobile or garland. I would love to make about a hundred and string them up in front of my window…however there is a limit to my patience!! If you spray them lightly on one side they look very pretty and a bit more crystal-like! If you love crystals and gems as much as I do then check out these cool projects: Home-made rock candyHome grown geodes Edited to add: Check out this great advent calendar idea using my paper gems. How-to 1. !!! !!

How to make gift bags from newspaper When I bought something at a store recently, the clerk handed me my purchase in a bag made from a newspaper. I liked it very much and had to make some more—thus today's DIY recycled newspaper project: gift bags made from the Wall Street Journal. You can vary the dimensions, of course, but here's what I used to create a bag that's 5" tall, 4.5" wide, and 3" deep. Stack two sheets of newspaper on top of each other. This will be a two-ply bag for extra sturdiness. Cut out a rectangle that's 15.5" wide and 8.25" tall.

Paper beads I made these paper beads a while ago and dug them out the other day for my eldest son to play with. At three and a half he’s grown out of playing with his chunky threading beads – so these were the perfect replacement. They are so easy to make and surprisingly sturdy. I used some sheets of origami paper to make mine but you can use any kind of paper. For example magazine scraps are particularly good for making beads with a more ethnic feel.

Well, I can't quite bring myself to get into it after 15 years but I love the bright colors, the patterns, the idea of it....It got me thinking where else I could apply the process and I thought it'd be fun to make a huge friendship bracelet that you could walk on. You know, given my love of all things oversized. After multiple attempts I came up with this rug for the new Chalkboard Magazine (it's awesome.

DIY Cup Cake Liners We went to a beautiful little island to pick raspberries last weekend and I wanted to make a bunch of lemon-raspberry cupcakes. To pimp them up a little, I made these cute, super easy cupcake liners . There were featured in Woman’s Day Magazine June 2012! Just download and print out the patterns on letter sized paper, cut out one big square, take a glass and wrap your paper around it. For the oil of the baked cupcakes not to zip through, take a little bit of wax paper, cut a smaller square and insert it in between your cupcake and the big printed square. Wrap some Bakers Twine around it.

Handmade geometric stamps for Handmade Living By Kate on January 11, 2012 I‘ve tried to make my own rubber stamps on many occasions but never really got the hang of it. I think half the reason is that it’s impossible to buy the proper carving blocks here in the UK. So…I put an article together for this months issue of Handmade Living on easy rubber stamps. (I actually wrote this article about three months ago….it’s taking me a while to get used to the print ‘time-lag’ thing). How to Weave an Easter Basket from Recycled Boxes March 26th, 2013 Email 155 users recommend DIY Braided Bead Bracelet It’s been awhile since our last bracelet DIY. I don’t know about you, but our wrists have been begging for another colorful addition for months now. So after playing with some materials that were already on hand, we’ve created a tutorial for a braided bead bracelet, which is a not so distant cousin of the hex nut and wrap bracelet. Because honestly, you can never have too many . . .

How To Make an Eight Page Book Out of a Single Sheet of Paper Here are eight panels of artwork printed on one side of a single sheet of paper. With some trimming, folding, and cutting, we will transform this sheet into the eight pages, including the front and back cover, of a tiny book. I have two that are safely tucked away in my parents basement awaiting our reunion. When I learned that I would be having a child and building a nursery for him, I wanted a flokati. A gray one. Being a flokati snob though, I knew that I couldn’t afford the price tag ( ), and I knew that I would be too precious about the rug ( ). So I chose the only sensible alternative: I would make a rug.
