Carved Book Landscapes by Guy Laramee (click images for detail) For the better part of three decades multidisciplinary artist Guy Laramee has worked as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer. Among his sculptural works are two incredible series of carved book landscapes and structures entitled Biblios and The Great Wall, where the dense pages of old books are excavated to reveal serene mountains, plateaus, and ancient structures. So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes. Laramee’s next show will be in April of 2012 at the Galerie d’Art d’Outremont in Montreal.

Corpse Run 157: Subtleties of language | Crispy Gamer Is it weird that I referenced the Elder Scrolls dragon alphabet to actually spell out "penis" in dragon-ese? Am I a messed up individual? Yes, but by god I'm thorough. Quick note: reader Jake pointed out that the archives section should be flipped, so that the newest comics would appear on top and make navigation easier. Story time! I turn around and let her know that I was with someone else at the moment, and would be with her as quickly as possible, as I was the only one in the department at the time. The first, and much nicer customer allowed me to leave, whispering to me "good luck, she sounds awful" as she left. "Alright, ma'am," I said, and took her to the blu-ray aisle. I showed her the cheapest. Now, I don't know about you, but I've never really found myself in a situation where words like "best" and "cheapest" are used to describe the same thing. I explained that I had shown her the cheapest because she asked me to, to which she responded, "SHOW ME THE BEST." I did. 1. 2.

One Dead Tree (20 photos) - My Modern Metropolis - StumbleUpon It's a familiar tale you hear all the time. What starts out as an accident turns into something amazing. So it was for Kevin Day, a graphic designer who's created a beautiful and moving story about one dead tree. For over five years now, Day has been photographing the same tree on different days, through different seasons and in different lighting conditions. His most popular shot was taken one very early morning on August 18, 2005. The unretouched photo, with the sun peeking through the tree's core, became his inspiration. Another one of his most popular photos he calls African Sunset. I was able to get in touch with Day to share ask him some questions. See the full set at Flickr. Jun 19, 2011 / Category : Misc / 22 Comments We are all victim to the atrocities of today's many scenes and subscenes. Whether you choose to accept it or not, this reality affects us all in one way or another. This crescendo crazed composer is hard to define by looks alone. The Nintendocore fan refuses to let go of the video games from his youth, however, his dedication leaves him trapped in an 8-bit world in his parents basement without a warp pipe to escape. Armed with his boots and braces, this working-class hero is ready for a fight after a long night of sing alongs and pbr with his friends fred perry and ben sherman. Just when you think things couldn't get much worse than electro-ska, black polka metal, or christian punk, the crunkcore scene comes along and makes everything else look perfectly acceptable. To most thrash fans, the "big four" consists of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. You sir, are grizzled! Here is "a message to you rudy"- give it up!

Designers Spin Spidey-Worthy Webs From Packing Tape Packing tape has gotten MacGyver out of many a jam, but he never managed to make an entire home out of the stuff. So he could probably learn something from Viennese/Croatian design collective For Use/Numen. The team uses nothing but packing tape to create huge, self-supporting cocoons that visitors could climb inside and explore. Installed three times in the past year, the next deployment will be next week from June 9–13 at DMY Berlin's International Design Fair, which is now in its 8th year. The installations, which look like the work of horrifyingly large arachnids, grew in scale and scope as the year progressed, first deployed inside a small Croatian gallery, then an abandoned attic during October’s Vienna Design Week. At the last installation inside Odeon, a former stock exchange building in Vienna, the group used nearly 117,000 feet and 100 pounds of tape.
