I've been checking out blogs lately and noticing the fantastic amount of work that goes into setting up an elementary school classroom- the themes and ideas that some people have are amazing!! I have posted some subject specific posters in my room, but I also like to include some fun quote posters, some inspirational posters and some academic posters. Web Resources Top Ten Free Educational Websites list is now Top Eighteen! Updated August 11, 2014! Are your kids headed back to school? If it's time to help them brush up on all their academic skills, why not check out some of these great free educational websites? Our original list was ten sites, and it has now grown to 18 great FREE educational sites. These are in alphabetical order, because I don’t want to play favorites. ABCya.com: A ton of educational games and activities for grades K-5. Fun Brain: So much fun stuff that the kids might not even realize you are sneaking some learning in. Highlights Kids: I can remember, way back in the day when I was a child, reading the Highlights magazines in the waiting room at the pediatrician’s office. National Geographic Kids: The kind of excellent offering you would expect from National Geographic. NGA Kids: Help introduce your children to art and art history. PBS Kids: Almost limitless activities from all of your kids’ favorite PBS shows.
The Epic BYOD Toolchest (51 Tools You Can Use Now) PowerSchool Learning: (Previously Haiku Learning.) This is a full learning management system (LMS) that I’m trying to get our school to adopt. It’s multiplatform and robust, which makes it a great fit for our BYOD environment. There are many other content-sharing platforms, like Moodle, Canvas, and CourseSites. Screencasting and Capturing What Happens in Class If you’re going to share and interact with your students in the electronic and physical spaces (as you should), you must learn how to screencast. In some exciting news, Apple has announced that iOS 11 (out later this year) will include screen recording capabilities and new screenshot features. Screencast-O-Matic: This is my go-to app. Cloud Syncing Dropbox: If you shoot video and need to get it onto your computer, Dropbox is essential. Expression Students need multiple ways to share and to express themselves, particularly verbally and with pictures. Blogging Ning: Ning looks like a social media site because it is. Written Expression
