Dee*construction: Make my Week #23 - sweatshirt restyle
like my new mustard blazer? here is what it used to look like: an XL men's sweatshirt (who had the good fortune of being a delightful colour!) gather here, snip there... surprisingly it worked, is comfy, and i have worn it lots!

dee*construction: ::TUTORIAL:: sweater restyle it's here!! at long last. if you have been waiting (and waiting!) for a tutorial on how i restyled The Blazer, this is as close as you'll get :) because i didn't really want 2 blazers i have basically done the same restyle, but on a hoodie for my daughter this time. i will primarily focus on the construction of the sleeves - where to cut, where to gather, where to sew. ::you will need:: one sweater, at least 3 sizes larger than your usual size. (you cannot use a sweater with raglan sleeves) 1::lay your sweater out flat. 2::carefully cut up the side seams and along sleeves. then cut around armholes. 3::cut the upper sleeve pattern piece. on the left is the piece i used (from an unwanted jacket i unpicked) - this is how it looks against a regular sleeve pattern. on the right is how to make this piece yourself. basically it is the same shape but extend approx 5cm (2") on the fold as shown. make the extension longer if you would like a more fuller gather (more "poof"). 7:: we're almost ready to sew!!

Tie Dye T-Shirts with Sharpie Markers! It was Red Ribbon week at my daughter's school this week and their first dress up day was tie dye t-shirts and wouldn't you know she didn't have anything tie dye in her closet. So we decided to do a little art project together and make something with what we had on hand. I have seen several different examples and directions for this on the internet so we took what we found from various searches and modified it just a little bit. Here's what you'll need and the steps we followed: Pre-washed white or light colored t-shirt (cotton takes color great)Rubbing Alcohol (Note: mine was 91%. **** Extra Embellishment: (fabric, scissors, iron on paper, and an iron) - we made a sparkley peace sign to put in the center of the shirt. My super helper, ready to get creative! Choose a spot to start and put your cup in right side up and secure a rubber band around the cup rim holding the shirt tightly in place. Pick your colors and create a small design in the center of the stretched circle. Super cute!

Skin Brightening Toner I love everything skin and especially when it comes to making and trying new skin care recipes. A few weeks ago (after giving up with the toner I was currently using) tried a new toner recipe and since then have been, dare I say, in love with it. Ingredients: 1/2 Cup Lemon juice 1 Cup Water 2/3 Cup Witch hazel (can purchase at any drug store) Plastic bottle or jar Facial toner recipe for those with normal to dry skin. *For oily skin add 2 Tablespoons Alcohol* STEP ONE: Mix ingredients in a bottle or jar. STEP TWO: Cleanse skin with facial cleanser and rinse. STEP THREE: Apply toner with a cotton pad, sweep upward and outward over entire face and neck. STEP FOUR: Apply moisturizer. Benefits: Witch Hazel: Tightens pores and reduces inflammation. Lemon Juice: Reduce blemishes and lightens skin. Use facial toner both morning and night for a deeper cleanse, smaller pores and bright, radiant skin! *If you have any questions about toner or other skin care needs, please feel free to ask :)

SMMARTideas: Time-Out for Mom: Knotted neckline shirt Tutorial I saw a shirt like this online, but the tutorial was difficult for me to follow. I sort of made up my own procedure. I happened to have a gray Shade brand shirt in my closet that I rarely wore... because it's gray and I am not certain "how" to wear it. This little knot improvement really made a nice detail and I love to wear the shirt now. So, I cut at an angle from the collar hem towards my right underarm area. You can cut as low down the neckline as you wish the knot to be. Then I decided that I needed to cut two little triangular pieces for me to be able to tie. And I tied those little triangle pieces. Then I took one side of the tie and tucked it under and through the hole that formed after I made a knot. Then I tied those two little pieces again (over the knot). I cut most of the collar off the front of the shirt because it was too bulky to sew down on the inside of the shirt. I folded those large flaps of cloth into the inside area of the shirt and laid them flat against the shirt.

MADE: TUTORIAL: the Circle Skirt I used to think that a gathered skirt was the easiest skirt to sew. But I may have changed my tune. A circle skirt is possibly even easier!….especially if you leave the elastic exposed. If you’ve ever made a poodle skirt before, it’s the same concept. Your fabric is cut in a circle, like a donut. Once you’ve created your pattern, you can whip up 4 skirts in an hour! Okay, let’s get started. What you need (for a little girl’s skirt): * about 1 yard of fabric* appx 3/4 yard of 2-inch wide elastic FABRICS to use:* Rayon* Polyester Charmuese* Simple Cotton* Thin Corduroy* Lightweight WoolMany fabrics will work for this project. ELASTIC:Wide elastic from fabric stores typically comes 2 inches or 3 inches wide; white or black in color. If you’d like to add a colorful twist to your skirt, check out our easy Tutorial for Dyeing Elastic HERE. Measure around your waist. PATTERN:This requires a bit of geometry but don’t worry, we’ll break it down for you. draw another 1/4 circle: Like this: Try it on,

Lace for Days Skirt So, remember how 2 weeks ago I told you I had a new skirt tutorial? I am just now getting around to creating it, so sorry about the wait! I have had the lace for this skirt for about a year now (seriously), and have finally gotten around to making it. This idea has been in my head for a long time and it's nice to see if finally completed!(you can tell how long it took me to do, because my nail polish changes throughout the tutorial) I found this lace at Joanns and fell instantly in love. Want to make one? Lace for Days Skirt You will need: 1.5 yards of fabric. Step 1: Lay your pencil skirt on your pattern fabric/paper to create the pencil skirt pattern for the main structure of the skirt. You can do this directly onto your main fabric, but I used a grid fabric just to be safe. Make sure to note of where your darts are, if your skirt has any. Step 2: Cut out the front and back pieces of your skirt (these will probably be different sizes if one side has darts), and cut out 4 waistband pieces.

Embellish Knit Month: Day 6 A lot of you expressed questions about resizing sweaters. I mentioned briefly how to do that on day one but I didn't go too in depth. So today and tomorrow I'll be redoing sweaters by first showing you how to turn them into cardigans today and then tomorrow showing you how to resizing body and sleeves, nothing else. Today I found this Wet Seal sweater for $1.50 at Community Aid. So I turned it into a cardigan. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Done.
