Wall Street Occupiers Fight America’s Democracy Deficit Thursday, Oct 6, 2011, 12:31 pm BY Roger Bybee Occupy Wall Street protesters during the labor solidarity march on October 5, 2011. (Photo by Lindsay Beyerstein, all rights reserved.) The Occupy Wall Street protests, spreading to cities throughout the country, have brilliantly distilled the essence of corporate and government policy in recent years: The richest 1 percent engorge themselves at the expense of the bottom 99 percent. No matter how much the corporate media deride the Wall Street Occupiers for not presenting a compact set of demands, commentators and pundits must face this reality. Recent figures show that the 23.5 percent share of income claimed by the richest 1 percent—more than the bottom half of the U.S. population—is the highest share since 1928, just before the US economy exploded into the Great Depression. It's therefore no surprise that the occupiers’ fundamental message resonates with Americans.

Anonymous Safeguards the Reputation of Occupy Wall Street While protesters remain peaceful in the face of seeming escalating violence on the part of some police, the eyes of the world are watching. We never know exactly who is watching, though, and what they’re going to do about it. But it seems clear that Anonymous is advising against the October 10th #InvadeWallStreet action to “erase” the NYSE from the Internet. Meeting notes from Anonymous state: We have taken notice to a planned attack which has been named #InvadeWallStreet, which is to be held out October 10th. Throughout Occupy Wall Street, Anonymous has been sending messages of solidarity with the citizens and proving the point that while the “authorities” are behaving as if they have all of the power, there are ways to even that playing field that don’t involve physical violence or violating the law. This is the new revolution; with peaceful protesters and tech savvy watch guards of citizens’ rights, fighting back doesn’t have to be physical. Anonymous is watching.
