Bookshelves + Staircase = Bookstairs I am so enthralled by these that I just might build some bookstairs that lead to nothing in my pad. This beauty belongs to London-based Veronika and Sebastian. My only addition would be a space to keep a pillow or two so I can sit and read on the stairs if I feel so inclined. Capturing the Boom of Skateboarding in the 1960s My Modern Metropolis Capturing the Boom of Skateboarding in the 1960s Photojournalist Bill Eppridge captures skateboarding's humble beginnings in the urban setting of New York City. While the concept of the sport and makeshift models of the skateboard were introduced sometime in the 40s or 50s, it was in the mid-1960s that skateboarding truly flourished and Eppridge was there to catch it in all its glory for a lifestyle spread in LIFE Magazine. In his series titled Skateboarding in New York City, Eppridge exhibits the joy and excitement of zooming down a city street and playfully riding past pedestrians on a thin, wheeled board, as clearly evidenced through the skateboarders' beaming faces. via [Building a Wolf, LIFE] You might like: Fascinating Photos Show Current Life Inside North Korea Retro Love (10 photos) Makeup Artist Transforms Women in Stunning Before and After Photos 10 Creepy But Cool Street Posters Recommended by Views: 7688 Tags: Bill Eppridge, Skateboarding in New York City, photo

Color - Live Like You & Marmalade Interiors If you have followed this blog for a while you might be familiar with my line “Life is too Short for White walls”. Well ironically, or perhaps to test myself (?) the bungalow rental we are in for the next few months has…yes…only WHITE walls. After living with a kaleidoscope of colors in our old house it felt at first refreshing with stark white walls. But walking through our Virginia house (soon no longer ours…) via Skype yesterday and seeing all the pretty colors – I suddenly felt deprived! That’s not t say you can’t create some some cheerful spaces with an all white backdrop. Interior design by Emily Henderson. A great starting point add a– BOLD COLORED COUCH. Via Belle Maison. Add CONTRASTING FURNITURE AND PATTERNS. Adding COLORFUL ART and PILLOWS and BOOKS is another way to bring color and life in to the space. BeenThere-DoneThat - An illustrated travel guide to Great Britain A ModernTake on the Doily - $850 Lamp for less than $50 A Modern Take on the Doily $850 Lamp for less than $50? Yes Please! Hello Pretty people! We are so excited to share a project we did this past weekend. A few months ago, I came across a ceiling lamp, I absolutely loved. It was $850, and I just couldn’t justify the spend, being it was simply made of doilies. To get started, you are going to need a few things to make this project successful. corn starchballoon (we used a 40” blown up until completely round, as pictured)upholstery thread (but any thread will do)twinedrop clothschool gluecheap paintbrushpetroleum jellylamp kit24+ doiliesstiff stuff We sewed the doilies around the balloon with the upholstery thread, very carefully. Make sure to create a space to place your bulb socket. Once you have sewn about ¾ of your balloon, stop and do the last ¼ separately. Lay down your tarp and hang your balloon from some twine above the tarp. Rub the balloon down with the petroleum jelly. It should look something like the image above! I am Lana.

desire to inspire - jo's page A small room off the dining room serves as my husband's office. Originally a bedroom, it is a strange "landlocked" room with windows opening onto other rooms, a consequence of alterations over the years. We think it was the maid's room when the house was first built. Here are some blurry shots I snapped on our second inspection of the house before we bought it. After we painted it a couple of years ago (Murabond Faraway, same as the dining room) it basically became a dumping room for Kelvin's computer and any other electrical equipment. Years passed and nothing happened. Kelvin loves to collect as much as I do and some of his special objects found their way into the room.
