SCHOPENHAUER'S 38 STRATAGEMS, OR 38 WAYS TO WIN AN ARGUMENT Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), was a brilliant German philosopher. These 38 Stratagems are excerpts from "The Art of Controversy", first translated into English and published in 1896. Carry your opponent's proposition beyond its natural limits; exaggerate it. Many times each day, your mind permanently splits into different versions that live in different worlds.

Skeleton Gingerbread Men Cookies | Our Best Bites - StumbleUpon Who says gingerbread men are just for Christmas? (Really, who does say that? I’m assuming someone does) It’s time to rip off the lederhosen and get ready for a Halloween edition. You certainly could use our Gingerbread Cookie recipe, but I’m going for Chocolate. With one little twist. Cinnamon and Orange give these chocolate cookies a warm, spiciness that seems fitting for spooky little Halloweeny people. I’m also using royal icing. You want to start with your icing at a nice piping consistency. I switched to a larger tip for my bones (a #5) so I just started using that one for my faces as well. I know that after looking at these cookies you will all be shocked to know that I am not an expert in human anatomy. Then add some little bone shaped bones (bone shaped bones? After you’ve finished piping all your cookies to this point, you can fill in your faces. and then used that same toothpick to spread it around into all of the open spots. I know; I’m getting too attached. Royal Icing

Not so much a recipe... & Jo In the Kitchen More of a “why have I not been doing this for years?” post. Remember back when I made caramel sauce? For some strange reason, I haven’t made it since then. The other day, I decided to make caramel sauce. I’d also been pouring the leftover coffee into an ice tray and freezing it in the off hand chance I’d have time to make iced coffee. See where I’m going? I didn’t have time to cold brew, so I made coffee in the french press, poured it into a pitcher, and let it rest in an ice bath. Once it was chilled, I took the caramel sauce and drizzled it in some glasses. Totally fancy, I know. Then I added the coffee cubes, my favorite creamer, then the coffee. Lovely. For this batch, I didn’t let the coffee cool enough, so the caramel drizzles disappeared when I poured the coffee in. So, now that I have the power of delicious iced coffee, you’ll find me out in my back yard, chillin’ with a book and sippin’ on love. Pioneer Woman’s Caramel Sauce Like this: Like Loading...

30 Books I’m Glad I Read Before 30 In various ways, these 30 books convey some of the philosophy of how Angel and I live our lives. I honestly credit a fraction of who I am today to each title. Thus, they have indirectly influenced much of what I write about on this site. If you haven’t read these books yet, I highly recommend doing so. Friday Cocktails: Chilled Cider Punch Enlarge Credit: MacKenzie Smith I used to think that mulled cider was the perfect Halloween party drink. It's festive and seasonal, easy to make in large batches, and everyone loves it. Still, every year I'm proven wrong— I've had entire boiling vats of cider knocked over, burn victims to tend to, forgotten pots left to simmer indefinitely, melted ladles, and singed costumes... and aside from all that trouble, who wants to repeatedly run into the kitchen to brew up another pot of cider? My guests tend to come thirsty, and seldom patient. This year I've vowed to go cold. See the recipe for Chilled Cider Punch »
