Oakland Police Raze Camp, Raids In Denver And Portland
Oakland Police, perhaps wishing to send a national message, waited until the east coast AM news cycle Monday to raid the Occupy Oakland encampment. But before the raid began, hundreds of demonstrators had already gathered at the intersection of Broadway and 14th Street overnight in anticipation of the eviction. "It feels pretty sad because we built a community here, and now they can just come and destroy it," said Lara Bitar, 28, who helped collapse three of the camp's four tents early Monday morning. "At the same time, this movement is about more than just the space here." This is a mentality shared by the nationwide Occupy chapters. Just as that spirit of resilience remains the same, the strategy in confronting police adhered to the tradition of civil disobedience demonstrated by most occupiers, and reflected in an email from an unknown source that circulated among campers. Portland Raids The confrontation lasted overnight, at one point the crowd swelling to thousands of people.
Fair Housing Advocates Bristle At Banks' Proposals For Foreclosed Homes
Banks helped create the housing crisis, and now they're seeking a new way to profit from it. As Bloomberg reported Monday, several financial and investment companies have submitted proposals to the federal government, suggesting ways that they can help manage a program to rent out 180,000 foreclosed homes. Fair and affordable housing advocates are calling on the Obama administration to reject help from the financial sector, or at least limit its influence. "It's really a question of whether the banks that made so much money creating this crisis are going to profit again," Jeremy Rosen, policy director at the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, told The Huffington Post. More than 4,000 companies, organizations and individuals submitted ideas to the federal government this fall, Bloomberg reported. The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty also registered its suggestions, Rosen said. "Let's just say their track record isn't good," Goldberg said.

#Occupy Denver Clash With Denver Police In Weekend Filled With More Arrests
After a peaceful march last weekend as occupiers celebrated "Bank Transfer Day", tensions ran high again as Occupy Denver and Denver Police clashed over the weekend resulting in 17 arrests on Saturday and three more arrests on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, the arrests stemmed from a folding table that Occupy Denver used to serve food, The Denver Post reports, as police enforced the same ordinance that was enforced on Saturday, a "right of way" law that makes it illegal to "place any encumbrance on the public right of way" that is on "any street, alley, sidewalk, parkway or public way or place." The police had been handing out notices with the ordinance clearly stated since last week, according to Occupy Denver. Fox31 reports that one trooper and one officer were also injured during the arrests on Sunday and transported to a hospital.
