BRAIDY BUNCH

BRAIDY BUNCH
photo: kristin ess + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess This week my little sister came to stay with me. Since we LOVE braids around here, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use her shiny brown hair to show you how to do this quick one. It’s similar to the waterfall braid, but much faster and less confusing. Start this like a regular braid, but drop the top piece through to the bottom and leave it there.Gently twist the 2 pieces you’re left with upward.Add a new 3rd piece in between + drop it through.Twist again and repeat. Keep going until you get to the back. Remember there are only 2 main steps to this braid: twist + add a new piece. BROWS 101 photos: Justin Coit for thebeautydepartment.com post by amy nadine We’ve gotten tons of requests for a brow tutorial– how to shape them, how to fill them in, how to elongate them, etc… This is so great because the correct brow shape can really lift the eye and slim the face. First let me share my #1 rule: DO NOT OVER-PLUCK!! Spooly brush or disposable mascara wand, cuticle scissors, angled/slant tweezers, pointed tweezers, brow shadow (taupe for blondes, brown range for everyone else), stiff brow shadow brush, pencil (to line up the angles). 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. TIPPED OUT all photos: Kristin Ess + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess Lots of emails this week asking for a tutorial on Lauren’s temporary bright colors. Here I’ve replicated the process for you in 7 steps on an extension. While I never recommend bleaching out the ends of your hair at home, if you want to do the fun colors yourself, maybe get the tips bleached out by a pro + then play with the temporary colors on your own. The best things about this color– you’re able to hide it in a bun for work if you need to, AND you’re only doing a couple of inches on the bottom so it won’t kill you to cut it off if you get over it quickly. TOOLS: highlighting comb, clips, foils, color brush, hair bleach with the appropriate volume (always seek a professional when using bleach), light pink color, dark pink color, light blue, dark blue, clear gloss. Step 1 Highlight the tips of the hair using hair bleach with the correct volume. Step 3 Shampoo and lightly condition bleach out of the hair.

A DO. FOR YOU. Simple Horsetail photo: angela+ithyle/thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess Some days you just don’t wanna. For those days, we made you this! -light holding styling mousse -comb -small clear elastic -large bobbypin 1) Apply a light holding styling mousse all over from roots to ends for texture and seperation. 2) Separate the hair over your shoulder into two pieces. 3,4) Using your girl scout skills, tie hair into a simple knot. 5.) 6) I like to throw a bobby pin in there for extra security. 7) Back comb the ponytail a little for texture and then comb through it with your fingers to settle it. Tip: Once the steps are complete, tug on it and mess it up a bit. xxkristin Tags: blonde, easy, fast, hair, how to, knot, kristin ess, lauren conrad, not your average pony, pony, pony tail, ponytail, pretty, quick, tutorial Related posts:

THE HEART BRAID photos/design/post by Kristin Ess Since it’s wedding season, we thought it would be a good idea to do a post on flower girl hair. Wee ones need beauty too! It’s a very “sweet” look and will keep a flower girl’s hair out of her face all day. Part your hair into two sections by splitting it down the middle.Starting at the crown of your head, make the curve from the top of the heart. Good luck little ladies!
