Graphics and products I feel like I have been away for a very long time and sadly could not get to several things including the blog during the last 2 weeks. And, in many ways that is good news... The National Stationery Show was a wild success and so much fun. Thank you for stopping by the booth and if we missed you our apologies and we hope to see or hear from you soon. I thought since I have been away for so long I would dive right in and let you know how it all went from pre show to show to post show. (pics tomorrow) PRE-SHOWI started designing and planning back in October and for those of you who have done trade shows you know the time flys and for those who are planning to go, give yourself many months for trial and error. How many times have you slagged off a building – e.g., a school, shopping center or intentional eco community – for being concrete, and thus ugly? When I was kid, our next door neighbors moved out of their brick house into a concrete one (the dad invented some new kind of livable concrete) and I deemed them aesthetically challenged. Concrete has emerged as an invaluable material in sustainable construction. Limestone, the most abundant mineral on earth, is the predominant raw material in the cement that makes the concrete. In interiors, designers are molding concrete into unexpected, pretty things. For example: Stitching Concrete is a project by Florian Schmid created by manipulating folding fabric soaked in cement and water. The Aplomb suspension light from Italian lighting company Foscarini. The Espresso Solo, a conceptual product by Shmuel Linski. Also by Linski, his speaker collection, aptly named “Exposed.” A concrete bench from Berlin-based firm Metrofarm.

The existing spatial limits were transformed using new drywall geometries, color rasters, rhythmic patterns of ceramic tiles, glossy varnishes, acrylic reflective boards, and tinted mirrors, to create a new relation toward the antique, modernistic heritage. House dr Ceci n’est pas une porte – This is not a door A farm that is no longer a farm, a gate that is no longer a gate. The project expresses the intriguing conflict between making references to the past and yearning for innovation. The original oak wood entry gate to the farmyard was permanently closed off. Still, the gate has retained its function as a boundary and a passage way, now used within the living and working space. It functions as a transit area between the practise and the living space: a transverse passage between the stripped gate wall.
