Cool Cat Teacher Blog iPad Curriculum The Innovative Educator How to use mobile devices in the classroom | Teacher Network Blog | Guardian Professional In an interview earlier this year Education Secretary Michael Gove hinted that he would like to see mobile phones banned in schools. Claiming they lead to "disruption" and can be used for bullying, Mr Gove bracketed mobile phones and iPods in the same category as weapons such as knives. Many objected to this broadside with an online petition. As a former Director of E-Learning, teacher for seven years, and current educational researcher, I have witnessed transformational learning experiences where mobile devices such as iPods and mobile phones have been key. Modern mobile phones in particular are more like pocket computers and can connect young people to a world of information and learning. Parents such as myself could only dream of having such opportunities when we were at school. Part of the problem stems from the fact that all of us own a mobile phone and all of us went to school. That's not to say that all teachers want to see mobile devices used in the classroom, of course.

Ellen Bremen | Author & Professor of Communication iP@ds in my classroom - Update 1 #Edchat #EdTech #Education Here is the first of many updates on how the iPads are being used in my classroom. The students were finally able to get their hands on the iPads on Monday (November 28). The first day was spent mostly on the ins and outs of how the iPads were to be used. I showed some of the basic features of the iPad and let them take them for a spin. They were excited to see what they could do and spent time taking pictures and playing around with the free apps. I showed them how to log into Dropbox and Evernote and how to log off those apps as well. The next day, the kids were diving deep into their project (Creating a Transcendentalist Society) and started to encounter some problems using Dropbox. The next issue that came to light was the lack of email. I'll be keeping regular updates on my site on the apps I use, the policies put in place and anything else that comes up regarding the iPad pilot. Have a great day! - @TheNerdyTeacher

@iSchoolLeader Magazine Will schools go for iPads? Kerry ⋅ iPads ⋅ iPads ⋅ 5 comments Image by chibiayu “The desktop market has entered the dark ages, and it’s going to be in the dark ages for the next 10 years…” Steve Jobs Wired Magazine. 1996 Approximately 3 years ago there was one very useful piece of information I took away from an ICT strategy meeting I attended; don’t invest money in static computer suites – the future of technology is mobile. It’s often said that mobile devices and tablets are placed to bring about a fundamental change in the way we teach and learn with technology. At the outset, not everyone in school may readily embrace the concept of mobile learning – students, parents nor teachers. The school’s internet connection will have to be explored for robustness; this will include the overall broadband capacity, suitability of current network hardware and management and access via a solid wireless solution. The school IT support team will need to explore ways of managing multiple iPads. Further Reading: Fraser Speirs
