They remind me of what I love about both Tunng and the quieter moments from Blitzen Trapper, without sounding like either of those bands. Listen: Horses 2) Cough Cool, Clausen Despite being named after a Misfits song (they do an excellent cover of “Some Kinda Hate”), Cough Cool generally sounds nothing like the New Jersey hardcore pioneers. Listen: Suckers 3) Gauntlet Hair, Gauntlet Hair Tropicalia meets Animal Collective. Listen: Top Bunk 4) Zola Jesus, Conatus Zola Jesus (Nika Roza Danilova) puts her best instrument up front: her voice. Listen: Seekir 5) Yellow Ostrich, The Mistress Listen: Whale

How to Become a Music Mogul in 3 Easy Steps October 1, 2009 12:00 AM 1. The Setup 30 Books I’m Glad I Read Before 30 In various ways, these 30 books convey some of the philosophy of how Angel and I live our lives. I honestly credit a fraction of who I am today to each title. Thus, they have indirectly influenced much of what I write about on this site. The Problem With Music Whenever I talk to a band who are about to sign with a major label, I always end up thinking of them in a particular context. I imagine these people, some of them good friends, some of them barely acquaintances, at one end of this trench. 100 Best Drinking Songs Drinking songs and country music go together like, well … drinking and country music.
