A tablecloth reborn
This shirt began life as a beautiful linen tablecloth belonging to my mother’s stepmother’s mother (my step-great-grandmother?). After many years the stains and tears were too large and numerous to be covered with a strategically placed platter, but it was too special to just throw out. So it became this top. I designed the top around the lace of the tablecloth, keeping as much intact as possible. There were two sections of lace without major rips or stains, just enough to make the front and back of a shirt. I used a sturdier fabric for the sleeves since they have to hold up when I move my arms and added tablecloth-edge cuffs. Since it was a rectangular tablecloth, the lace pattern didn’t point directly at the corner.
Homemade Knitting Needles, Knitting Evangelism, and a Pretty Scarf Pattern
For my seventh birthday, my mom gave me a pair of light blue knitting needles and a ball of white yarn. She didn’t know how to knit, but sent me across the backyard to our neighbor’s house, where the retired librarian Marion Milligan took me under her wing. Marion taught me to knit and purl. I spent hours on her springy old sofa, or on lawn chairs in her backyard, working on my practice square while Marion turned miles of fluffy pink wool into exquisitely cabled sweaters for her granddaughters as she chain smoked (RIP, Marion). I’m not the best knitting teacher. So here’s a simple gift for you: Package up some homemade knitting needles with a skein of wool, an easy scarf pattern, and a heartfelt promise to teach your friend to knit. Making knitting needles is really fun. Rub on a thin coat of mineral oil, furniture oil, lavender oil, or sesame oil, and use a clean cloth to wipe off the excess. Let your imagination guide you in finishing the flat ends.

Sooo, I made my first tutorial. I sorta made it outta the blue, I am on holidays and I made this top and was very very excited (although I didn't really get that much feedback from Craftster on it... ) so decided that everyone should be able to make one! So I sat down with trusty ole Photoshop in my pyjamas (I'm still in them and it's 5pm...hehe, holidays are great) Here is the orginal top (link Now onto the tute. TUTORIAL GOODNESS! 2. If you want to see if you like the fit around your waist and stuff, unpin the pins at the sleeves and unbutton the shirt and try it on (you can try it one inside out and/or right side out, be careful of the pins though!. 3. WigUsing straight needles or one set of circulars, cast on 96 sts. Work in 2 x 2 rib until the piece is as long as the distance between the bottom of your chin, and your eyebrow (about 6.5"), ending with a WS row. NOTE: The extra stitches along the edge of the work will balance the width of the first and last ribs. Later on, when the bangs are added, these stitches will become parts of purl ribs. If more length in the main body of the wig is desired, work more rows at this point. Next row [RS]: work as before, but slip the first and last stitch. Bangs With RS facing and using backward loop cast on, loosely CO 32 sts. If more length in the bangs is desired, work more rows at this point. Work Decreases Using diagram B below as a guide, rearrange stitches on needles and add stitch markers. NOTE: Decreases will be worked identically at the front and back of the wig. Begin decrease round by working decreases over bangs.

How To: Newsprint Manicure
I saw this newsprint manicure over on The Daily Nail and thought it was adorable (especially for bookworms and word lovers like myself). I did a little Google detective work to see how to recreate it, and was surprised at how easy it is!
