this-one-time-while-couchsurfing from globotreks.com
I’ve been asked many times if I’ve had a bad couchsurfing experience. In fact, that is one of the first things people ask me when they find out I couchsurf or when they want to know more about the community and this interesting method of traveling. The reality is that I haven’t had any bad experience while couchsurfing but of course, I’ve had a few interesting and memorable experiences with a few of my hosts, and by far, the best one has been with my host Jonas, in Berlin. It was 4:00am and I had just arrived by train to Berlin’s central station, Berlin Hauptbahnhoff. Of course, since it was so early in the morning and I had no idea where I could go in the city at that hour, I decided to sit at a McDonald’s in the station (the only place open), and wait till 8:00am to call my host to get the address. I moved in and out of the terminal searching for signal, but my phone was as resistant of getting a signal as a child is of drinking his medicine. No luck! But before, one last look.
Palio di Siena
The Palio di Siena (known locally simply as Il Palio) is a horse race that is held twice each year, on July 2 and August 16, in Siena, Italy. Ten horses and riders, bareback and dressed in the appropriate colours, represent ten of the seventeen contrade, or city wards. The Palio held on July 2 is named Palio di Provenzano, in honour of the Madonna of Provenzano, who has a church in Siena. The Palio held on August 16 is named Palio dell'Assunta, in honour of the Assumption of Mary. A pageant, the Corteo Storico, precedes the race, which attracts visitors and spectators from around the world. The race itself, in which the jockeys ride bareback, circles the Piazza del Campo, on which a thick layer of dirt has been laid, three times and usually lasts no more than 90 seconds. History[edit] Origins[edit] The earliest known antecedents of the race are medieval. When the Grand Duke of Tuscany outlawed bullfighting in 1590, the contrade took to organizing races in the Piazza del Campo.
