Creating a Classroom Website using Weebly

Connecting families to the classroom and giving them the tools to work with students at home is a huge part of our jobs as teachers. Although I use many modes of parent communication (you can read about them in this blog post), I love having a ‘landing’ where families always have access to the information they need. Emails bounce back, texts are sometimes erased, and paper newsletters reside in a mystical land of lost home/school folders…do you feel me? Weebly is a free and SIMPLE blogging platform. Using the blue menu at the top of the screen (seen below), you can also create and organize your web-site pages. When families go to our website, they arrive at our Home landing page. On our Home page, I typically link 2 blog posts or photo albums that have been recently added. Now, for the individual pages on our class website. On our Newsletter page (below), I upload photos of our weekly newsletter and any information I’ve sent home in our Home/School folders. So friends, this is Weebly. Related:  EDUC 546

Free Technology for Teachers The Flipped Classroom Model: A Full Picture Due to Khan Academy’s popularity, the idea of the flipped classroom has gained press and credibility within education circles. Briefly, the Flipped Classroom as described by Jonathan Martin is: Flip your instruction so that students watch and listen to your lectures… for homework, and then use your precious class-time for what previously, often, was done in homework: tackling difficult problems, working in groups, researching, collaborating, crafting and creating. Classrooms become laboratories or studios, and yet content delivery is preserved. A compiled resource page of the Flipped Classroom (with videos and links) can be found at The advantage of the flipped classroom is that the content, often the theoretical/lecture-based component of the lesson, becomes more easily accessed and controlled by the learner. It is important, though, not to be seduced by the messenger. The Flipped Classroom Model Experiential Engagement: The Activity Summary

5 Benefits To Using Bloomz In Remote Learning Welcoming students and families virtually while supporting physical and social-emotional needs as we transition into the fall 2020 school year is on the top of our minds as educators and educational technologists. With Bloomz, teachers have the ability to create a community of care. Thinking wider, principals have the capacity to create a network of care. Expanding out even further to families across a state, superintendents and districts have the power to create a whole system of care. This is needed more than ever right now as we think about the trauma students have endured as COVID-19 spread around the world. We know that there is a difference in achievement between students with families who are highly engaged versus those who are not. Staying connected is essential. While a few teachers in my school used Bloomz others didn’t. Here are 5 benefits I experienced using Bloomz in remote learning. falcon-ware With the powerful message editor, fields from your recipients list can be inserted into the e-mail so that a new, personalised message is generated for each recipient. The fields are not limited to static data. With conditional fields the content is dynamically adapted. If the standard options for formatted texts aren't enough for you, you can design your e-mail in an external web design program and import the html file into SerialMailer with just a few clicks. SerialMailer features a central database manager that gives you access to the addresses stored in the 'Contacts' app. The database manager serves as a launch pad for your new mails. Each SerialMailer file has its own address list that is stored together with the mail. The mail personalisation is not limited to the e-mail text alone. When you send your message, SerialMailer can act like any normal e-mail client, but instead of sending just a single mail, it can send thousands at once.
