Reusable Art

Reusable Art
Reusable Art is proud to make available a collection of copyright free images chosen for crafters by a crafter. These free drawings, paintings, and illustrations have been rescued from old print materials that have since gone out of print and would have remained on the bookshelves of history were it not for this website. All of the images appearing on this site are copyright free and in the public domain in the United States, in countries that are part of the Berne Convention and any country that grants copyrights to artists up to 70 years after their death. As these images are out of copyright and now in the public domain, they can be used for anything you wish with no restrictions. (You can read more about this on our About Us page.) Information is provided with each image to research the copyright status in other countries.

The Theory of Two Truths in India 1. Ābhidharmikas / Sarvāstivāda (Vaibhāṣika) In the fourth century, Vasubandhu undertook a comprehensive survey of the Sarvāstivāda School's thought, and wrote a compendium, Treasury of Knowledge, (Abhidharmakośakārikā AbhiDK; Mngon pa ku 1b–25a) with his own Commentary on the Treasury of Knowledge (Abhidharmakośabhāṣya AbhiDKB, Mngon pa ku 26b–258a). This commentary not only offers an excellent account of the Sarvāstivādin views, including the theory of the two truths, but also offers a sharp critique of many views held by the Sarvāstivādins. Vasubandhu based his commentary on the Mahāvibhāṣā (The Great Commentary), as the Sarvāstivādins held their philosophical positions according to the teachings of the Mahāvibhāṣā.

Timelines The story of vaccines did not begin with the first vaccine–Edward Jenner’s use of material from cowpox pustules to provide protection against smallpox. Rather, it begins with the long history of infectious disease in humans, and in particular, with early uses of smallpox material to provide immunity to that disease. Evidence exists that the Chinese employed smallpox inoculation (or variolation, as such use of smallpox material was called) as early as 1000 CE. It was practiced in Africa and Turkey as well, before it spread to Europe and the Americas.

Ancient History Maps Now Online After much preparation and a lot of work (which is far from being finished), we are pleased to include an interactive map section on Ancient History Encyclopedia. You can now geographically explore the ancient world and gain a much deeper understanding of not only geography and location, but also interconnections between civilizations and empires. The first map is a political map of ancient times that lets you set the date you want to view, and you will see the cities and state borders at that time (all searchable, of course). The terrain shows the original natural terrain in ancient times, not the modern landscape. It’s a custom-built map, and it’s not complete: At the moment you can only see borders until around 270 BCE, even though cities are already placed until a much later date.

Medieval art history and the web 2.0. A selection of online resources for medievalists This simple overview of Internet resources for historians of medieval art is a “work in progress”, which can already help scholars and students. The current list of principally open access resources will be completed, modified, reshaped (as well as the proposed categories) and your ideas are important to make this tool a useful one for our daily scientific activity. I thus welcome any suggestion for improvement !
