It is the smallest of the main 18 islands, being less than 100 hectares (250 acres) in area, and is the only one uninhabited. One of the most striking feature of this island is that it often remains covered in clouds. This type of cloud is known as Lenticular clouds, so called because it is shaped like a lens. Lenticular clouds are always stationary and when formed over mountain peaks or islands, like Litla Dimun, looks like a majestic hat. Photo credit

The Incredible Magdeburg Water Bridge in Germany The Magdeburg Water Bridge is a navigable aqueduct in Germany that connects the Elbe-Havel Canal to the Mittelland Canal, and allows ships to cross over the Elbe River. At 918 meters, it is the longest navigable aqueduct in the world. The Elbe-Havel and Mittelland canals had previously met near Magdeburg but on opposite sides of the Elbe. Ships moving between the two had to make a 12-kilometer detour, descending from the Mittelland Canal through the Rothensee boat lift into the Elbe, then sailing downstream on the river, before entering the Elbe-Havel Canal through Niegripp lock.

The Secret Life of Plants It means even on the lower levels of life, there is a profound consciousness or awareness that bonds all things together. Published in 1973, The Secret Life of Plants was written by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. It is described as "A fascinating account of the physical, emotional, and spiritual relations between plants and man." Essentially, the subject of the book is the idea that plants may be sentient, despite their lack of a nervous system and a brain. This sentience is observed primarily through changes in the plant's conductivity, as through a polygraph, as pioneered by Cleve Backster.
How you can be a Nova counselor for your Scouts It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to be a Nova counselor. That said, rocket scientists are certainly welcome. By becoming a Nova counselor, you’ll introduce Scouts to the basic principles of STEM and help them discover how fun and fascinating science, technology, engineering and math can be. You’ll help guide them as they earn the Nova awards as Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts or Venturers. How do you get started? Physics-exploiting axe splits wood in record time -Interesting Engineering A new axe design has taken full advantage of known physics to chop the time it takes to split up a log of wood. Finnish inventor Heikki Kärnä is the man behind the Vipukirves Leveraxe and his aim was to redesign the axe using simple principles of physics to make it more efficient and safer. [Image Courtesy of Heikki Kärnä] This 1.9kg is more than a unique personal item, they are actually for sale but they do come at a price – €193.12. So what is it about this axe that would convince you to spend the little extra over a traditional design. A traditional axe is a simple wedge of metal on a handle that passes momentum on to the wood when it is struck; if there is enough momentum, the wood splits.
