andie johnson sews: Design Wall Monday Well, it's really a table, not the design wall. We're in the process of shuffling rooms in order for me to have a proper sewing studio with storage space, lots of light and , most importantly, a door that closes. I need these things so I can stop being a hag and griping about people (I'm looking straight at you, oldest child) moving, using or taking MY STUFF. I'm a professional! I can't have my tools being used for hockey equipment repairs, gift wrapping or hair cutting!! This is really happening, people. So today, in the dining room, I'm finishing a customer quilt. I love this pattern - I've made it many times - because it's so scrappy and yummy and fun. And this happened last week. I. I love love love maps. And the colors in this fabric are so soothing and tranquil. And, of course, I had to have some of those dots.

A Week in the Life: Quilter’s Miscellany | Quilty Pleasures Blog I wanted to share a few tidbits with you today. They’re small things from my week that, when grouped together, make enough for a blog post. We’ll call them A Quilter’s Miscellany. 1. McCall's offers a kit for this quilt at quiltandsewshop.com. I got the fabrics at my LQS* but there is a kit available from quiltandsewshop. I love this quilt and I know my son will love it, too. I used my quick quilt label method, for which you’ll find a tutorial here. 2. It looked pretty cute in the listing, but when it arrived, it was even better in person. Oh my word, how adorable is this?! And if that wasn’t enough, the little feet are hand painted to coordinate with the fabric! You’ll find similar items from the maker, Nicole, in her etsy shop, FrankieWaffles. 3. I made it years ago when I fell in love with the holly fabric—because my only daughter’s name is Holly. My daughter wasn’t thrilled with it (“wow mom, fancy piecing” were her exact words) so I’ll probably keep it.

Portland MQG BOM - my Buddy block! This year the Portland Modern Quilt Guild has introduced a new Block of the Month program for our guild, and this month the PMQG has given me my own very month! So it turns out the very first issue of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks has been reprinted and is available in stores right now. In that issue is my Buddy block (”Around the Rosie” is what the magazine calls it), and right alongside with Buddy is the block by Pam Vieira-McGinnis of PamKittyMorning! I say “buddy block” because Pam and I are buddies and we secret squirrel’d our blocks so that they’d go together as companion blocks. So back when Pam and I were making our blocks, I was farting around with Pam’s block and my block, using fabrics I didn’t care too much about for playing/experimentation purposes. For the PMQG BOM I wanted to remake my Buddy block with something new, so I chose Lizzy House’s Pearl Bracelet fabric along with Kona solids. What a perfect pairing!
