the pleiades in mythology In the clear and unpolluted night skies of antiquity the Pleiades star cluster was an object of wonder and interest. It was the subject of myth and legend in almost every culture on the planet. As the Pleiades cluster is close to the ecliptic (within 4°) in the constellation of Taurus it is a spring and autumnal 'seasonal' object in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Being close to the ecliptic, there are frequent occultations of the cluster with the Moon and planets. The Pleiades are among the first stars mentioned in literature, appearing in Chinese annals of about 2350 BC. The Bible contains three direct references to the Pleiades in Job 9:9 and 38:31, and Amos 5:8, and a single indirect reference in the New Testament. The etymological derivation of the name Pleiades (Πλειαδεσ) is uncertain. The 19th century poet Alfred Lord Tennyson probably did not realise how metaphorically close to the truth he was when he described, in his poem Locksley Hall, the rising Pleiades: Notes

Public Domain. Recently, I engaged in verbal combat with a friend over whether Joseph Campbell would have liked the TV show Game of Thrones. Imagining great thinkers interacting with the cultural phenomena of contemporary life is not simply a fantasy; such moments have actually occurred in history. The word entertainment has come to encompass a great number of varied activities. In The Ecstasy of Being, Campbell gives a brief overview of the development of the theatrical arts. Campbell then offers a rather curious comment, referring to the common worldview of this myth-less era. In the twentieth century, theater continued to deal with “existential agonies.” Campbell with George Lucas and Bill Moyers during the recording of The Power of Myth, filmed at Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch. Even today, many are surprised that Campbell resonated with the work of the Grateful Dead. Yours,John Bucher

Lilith Until the late twentieth century the demon Lilith, Adam’s first wife, had a fearsome reputation as a kidnapper and murderer of children and seducer of men. Only with the advent of the feminist movement in the 1960s did she acquire her present high status as the model for independent women. The feminist theologian judith plaskow’s A type of non-halakhic literary activitiy of the Rabbis for interpreting non-legal material according to special principles of interpretation (hermeneutical rules).midrash on the story of Lilith played a key role in transforming Lilith from a demon to a role model. The Bible mentions the Lilith only once, as a dweller in waste places (Isaiah 34:14), but the characterization of the Lilith or the lili (in the singular or plural) as a seducer or slayer of children has a long pre-history in ancient Babylonian religion. The liliths are known particularly from the Aramaic incantation bowls from Sassanian and early Islamic Iraq and Iran (roughly 400–800 C.E.).

Hekate Trigemina.

Epic of evolution A narrative that blends religious and scientific views of cosmic, biological and sociocultural evolution in a mythological manner In social, cultural and religious studies, the "epic of evolution" is a narrative that blends religious and scientific views of cosmic, biological and sociocultural evolution in a mythological manner. According to Taylor's Encyclopedia of Religion and Nature, an "epic of evolution" encompasses the 14 billion year narrative of cosmic, planetary, life, and cultural evolution—told in sacred ways. History[edit] "Epic of evolution" seems to have originated from the sociobiologist Edward O. Naturalistic and liberal religious writers have picked up on Wilson's term and have used it in a number of texts. Narrative[edit] This epic is not a long narrative poem but a series of events that form the proper subject for a laudable kind of tale. The epic as myth[edit] Dr. Interpretations of the epic[edit] E. Philip Hefner uses the analogy of weaving to describe the Epic.

Piramo e Tisbe Da Wikipedia, l'enciclopedia libera.
