Art of Nico Marlet You guys. Go see How to Train Your Dragon 2 this weekend, then come to the How to Train your Dragons 2 show next week!! It’ll have a tonne of artwork by artists from Dreamworks, including the above by James Baxter, Nico Marlet, Johane Matte (who made a badass comic you can get at the gallery), Megan Nicole Dong, Le Tang, Joe Pitt, and myself. June 21 @ Gallery Nucleus. The Art of Phillip Light O Filme que Habito Nico Marlet French born character designer Nicholas Marlet may have only recently gotten a lot of notice for his unique and appealing character designs, but he's been in the business for quite a while. He started as an animator on "Ducktales", "Talespin" and "Balto", doing character design on the latter which lead to a character designer position at Dreamworks. He worked on "The Prince of Egypt", "The Road to El Dorado", "Sinbad", "Madagascar" and "Over the Hedge". But it wasn't until his work on "Kung Fu Panda"and "How to train your Dragon" that he became a household name within the animation community. Marlet's early work for traditional animation didn't include his now trademark textures and patterns, but his keen design sense with strong shapes, charming expressions, rock solid anatomy and winning poses clearly shows in this design for an unproduced adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats": Marlet's early designs explored the panda's basic shape -- round curves, stooped neck, heavy belly.

Kei frames October 2010 How to Train Your Dragon is out on DVD today!!! Along with the movie you can get a second short called "The Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon". It was directed and written by my good friend John Puglisi, and features some amazing hand drawn animation by Ken Duncan's studio. I got to design the characters for the 2D sequences and story board on a couple scenes as well. When John asked for me to design a shark for Gobber to take on I pleaded with him to let it be a HammerHead. The Great White seemed overdone and I always thought HammerHeads were cooler. I made this model sheet of the HammerHead shark based from boards done by Dave Pimentel. These were some concepts for different appendages that Gobber could use for his arm. I had to create Gobber as 4 different ages. These were based from some of John's boards. Based off of Dave's boards. Once again based off of Dave's boards. Based off of John's boards These were some Frozen Vikings trapped in a glacier from the first flashback.
