Nature Inspired Color Palettes Hello everyone! I hope you had a nice weekend (ours was HOT - 114 degrees to be exact!). I mentioned last Friday that I was skipping out early to spend some girl time with my mom, and our first stop was Rogers Gardens, a gorgeous nursery and gift shop located in Newport Beach. The grounds are filled with rose gardens, garden rooms, potting sheds, an orchid room, and so much more. I snapped a ton of pictures as we meandered through the lush plants and flower gardens, in awe of God's incredible creations and flawless designs in nature. I was reminded of how nature's color palette is absolute perfection - in every way, shape and form.

Falling Water, Revisited: Modern Green Pool-Cooled Home The Frank Lloyd Wright home featuring a flow-through waterfall may be the most recognizable residential design in modern history, but for all of its innovations its construction was extremely costly, not to mention the subsequent renovations required to hold its structure together over time. If that was the prototype for integrating moving water into houses, then this design may be one of the best executions of a contemporary, environmentally-integrated approach. Starting with water-shadow patterns cast upon the entry path, this overly austere minimalist structure is merely a backdrop for the complex interplay of architecture and water that defines this house from top to bottom, inside and out. Like the name of the firm itself (Wallflower – photos by Albert Lim), the building is almost secondary, a foil for natural processes, views and the actions that take place within it rather than a work of art in and of itself. some people are just born with it « style/SWOON this house was love at first foot in the door… Jamie Laubhan-Oliver and her husband Larry Oliver are two of the most talented people I’ve ever known. Jamie is an art director for DHome/DWeddings and Larry is a senior designer for Neiman Marcus. They are both art directors and spend much of their days orchestrating amazing photoshoots. Their impeccable taste and blessed sample sale opportunities have turned their somewhat modest city townhome into a luxurious style haven. Each detail of their home is so interesting: from the alligator skull, to the collection of keys from Jamie’s father mixed with the heap of wine corks, and an armless baby doll. Each one has a story. Don’t get me wrong…these two have got their fair share of Jonathan Adler and other notable fancies by their ability to mix it all up so well is a gift. I have to tell you that one of the other endearing qualities about this couple is their peculiar side. Thank you Jamie and Larry!! photography by Elizabeth Lavin
