The Cloth Simulator A little more detail: What makes this simulation special is the speed at which everything is computed. Javascript (the language this is written in) is not exactly the most efficient language for this type of computation. This being said, much time was spent squeezing out every little detail that slows things down. Wells published The Time Machine, the novel that was to popularise the concept of time travel and lead to myriad stories on the theme. Villa Epecuen: The Town That Was Submerged For 25 Years Back in the 1920s, a tourist village named Villa Epecuen was established along the shore of Lago Epecuen, a salt lake some 600 kilometers southwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Lago Epecuen is like most other mountain lakes, except for one important difference. It has salt levels second only to the Dead Sea, and ten times higher than any ocean. Lago Epecuen’s therapeutic powers have been famous for centuries. Legend holds that the lake was formed by the tears of a great Chief crying for the pain of his beloved.

dbCinema Binary Meditations Videos of dbCinema in action are screen recordings of dbCinema sessions I've done using the desktop version of dbCinema. The Full Meal Deal is dbCinema itself. With all the interactive controls. You are first prompted to specify the concept. dbCinema then does a Google image search on the concept and retrieves images somehow related to the concept. Then dbCinema uses those images as 'paint'. The Interactive Series are powered by dbCinema itself, though in a much simpler interface than the above version. Cyber security lessons offered to schools in England Image copyright Thinkstock Schoolchildren in England will be offered lessons in cyber security in a bid to find the experts of the future to defend the UK from attacks. It is hoped 5,700 pupils aged 14 and over will spend up to four hours a week on the subject in a five-year pilot. Classroom and online teaching, "real-world challenges" and work experience will be made available from September. A Commons committee last week warned that a skills shortage was undermining confidence in the UK's cyber defences.

Socotra Socotra (Arabic: سُقُطْرَى‎ Suquṭra), also spelled Soqotra, is a small archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean. The largest island, also called Socotra, is about 95% of the landmass of the archipelago. It lies some 240 kilometres (150 mi) east of the Horn of Africa and 380 kilometres (240 mi) south of the Arabian Peninsula.[2] The island is very isolated and a third of its plant life is found nowhere else on the planet. It has been described as "the most alien-looking place on Earth". The island measures 132 kilometres (82 mi) in length and 49.7 kilometres (30.9 mi) in width.[3]

Penguin Watch: Public asked to aid Antarctic research British scientists who have set up a network of penguin-monitoring cameras in Antarctica are asking the public to help them carry out their research. The Oxford University team is launching a new version of their ambitious project, PenguinWatch, on Thursday. This is now the largest Antarctic citizen science venture in the world. In "PenguinWatch 2.0", people will be able to see the results of their online efforts to monitor and conserve Antarctica's penguins colonies. Lead researcher Dr Tom Hart is also encouraging school groups to adopt their own colony - following and monitoring its progress and "learning about Antarctica along the way." "We've been really good at engaging people, but we've not been that good at feeding back," he told BBC News.

Tesla Model S Achieves Best Safety Rating of Any Car Ever Tested Palo Alto, CA — Independent testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the Tesla Model S a 5-star safety rating, not just overall, but in every subcategory without exception. Approximately one percent of all cars tested by the federal government achieve 5 stars across the board. NHTSA does not publish a star rating above 5, however safety levels better than 5 stars are captured in the overall Vehicle Safety Score (VSS) provided to manufacturers, where the Model S achieved a new combined record of 5.4 stars. Of all vehicles tested, including every major make and model approved for sale in the United States, the Model S set a new record for the lowest likelihood of injury to occupants.
