monovektor I have thrown together a collection of small scripts that could save some time when visualizing data. I hope they can be helpful as, for most of them, there are no equivalent functions inherent in Illustrator – well, as far as I know. If you find these tools helpful; or have any suggestions of improvement; or ideas for other tools; or just about anything else – I’d appreciate comments. I have a few other useful scripts that I intend to add to this package in the future, but in the meantime here is a quick run-down on what the scripts so. Really the best thing to do is to try them out and play around. Les projections hyperelliptiques de Waldo Tobler Né en 1930, mort le 20 février 2018, Waldo R. Tobler était une des grandes figures américaines de la géographie. Il est surtout connu pour sa « première loi de la géographie » : Tout interagit avec tout, mais deux objets proches ont plus de chances de le faire que deux objets éloignés. » Il fut, au cours de sa carrière de chercheur et d’enseignant à l’université du Michigan, puis à l’université de Californie à Santa Barbara, l’un des pionniers de l’informatisation de la cartographie, et contribua à l’étude mathématique des espaces géographiques, notamment à travers l’analyse des facteurs d’échelle. Ce billet n’a pas l’ambition de faire un panorama complet de l’œuvre de Waldo R. Research - Brain Processing of Visual Information CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered that an area of the brain previously thought to process only simple visual information also tackles complex images such as optical illusions. The research, conducted with animals, also provides evidence that both the simple and more complex areas of the brain involved in different aspects of vision work cooperatively, rather than in a rigid hierarchy, as scientists have believed to date. "Because half of the human brain is devoted directly or indirectly to vision, understanding the process of vision provides clues to understanding fundamental operations in the brain," said Professor Mriganka Sur of MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. The research, which will appear in the December 20 issue of the journal Science, was conducted by Professor Sur, graduate student Bhavin R. Mr. The V1 area is the first point of entry in the brain's cortex of visual information from the eye's retina.

Le centre de recherche américain Telegeography publie chaque année une nouvelle carte des câbles sous-marins dans le monde (voir les cartes 2014, 2015, 2016 et 2017). En 2018, le site recense 428 câbles sous-marins, soit une longueur totale atteignant plus d'1,1 million de kilomètres.
