Sunday Planning – design finch

Sunday Planning – design finch
I recently read a statistic that said every minute invested in planning will save you ten minutes down the road. I can personally attest that not only does a little planning ahead help with time management, but it also saves money and reduces stress. Don’t we all want more help in those areas? Um, I sure do! No matter how busy I am, I try to set aside about an hour on Sunday afternoons to prepare for the week ahead. Check calendar for appointments.Make a “to do” list.Jot down a plan for dinners.Create a shopping list.Take items out of the freezer to defrost.Check the weather forecast.Iron work clothes for the week. When I don’t take the time to do these things on Sunday, I feel like I spend the rest of the week playing catch-up. While my iPhone has certainly simplified things, I still find it helpful to make lists the old-fashioned way because I find great pleasure in checking things off! Planning to Get Fit – design finch Ouch! I just completed week one of “Operation Get Fit” and every muscle in my body is begging for mercy. I’ve rediscovered muscles I’d forgotten I had….and somehow even managed to bruise my tailbone within the first ten minutes of bootcamp today. I’m not really sure what the impetus was for the sudden burst of motivation to get in shape (besides the impulse Groupon purchase). Of course, I decided that before I could even think about getting fit, I first needed to design a cute planner to track my progress. With planner in hand, I then went to town penciling in a simple workout schedule that hopefully I’ll be able to stick with. A Day in the Life of a Classroom Teacher Free Your Mind « EDITED TO ADD: I’m pleased to see that people on Pinterest are finding this post, as I have found the Mind Jar to be a great parenting tool. After reading comments here and on Pinterest with worries about children throwing glass jars full of glitter across the room in anger, I thought I should add this note. I only use the Mind Jar to get through moments of fear or anxiousness with my kids. If they are worried about school, or a family member they know is ill, or strife with a friend. I’m usually sitting with them and we’ll talk it out, as we both enjoy the glitter show. It never occurred to me to hand them a glass jar full of liquid and glitter while they were in the throes of a tantrum. We’re two weeks into Kindergarten and Pix is finding ways to cope with her anxiety about school. Since this obviously isn’t an issue that needs medication we’re teaching Pix how to find ways to calm herself. What is a mind jar? Pix isn’t the only fan of this jar. Look at her state of calm. Make Your Own Quote Wall | Pinching Your Pennies I love quotes and inspirational thoughts. They lift me up and help inspire me to be a better person. I have seen ideas online on creating a quote wall, so I decided to improvise and make my own. There was a small blank wall by my kids’ bathroom and it was the perfect spot. Instead of buying frames, I used canvases that I already had, except the 5×7 sizes. I printed my prints at Costco, high quality and the best price around. I am really pleased with it and my kids really like it. Here are where I got the free prints on my wall in case you are interested. Sprik Space: Freebies On occasion, I plan to offer FREE downloads of printables that I work up. (Because the best part of the internet is what you can find for FREE, right??) How to make gift bags from newspaper When I bought something at a store recently, the clerk handed me my purchase in a bag made from a newspaper. I liked it very much and had to make some more—thus today's DIY recycled newspaper project: gift bags made from the Wall Street Journal. You can vary the dimensions, of course, but here's what I used to create a bag that's 5" tall, 4.5" wide, and 3" deep. Stack two sheets of newspaper on top of each other. Cut out a rectangle that's 15.5" wide and 8.25" tall. Fold a flap 1.25" down from the top. Cut two pieces of cardstock or chipboard to 4.25" x 1", then glue them on the widest two panels just under the top fold. Put glue on the outside of the 0.5" tab and bring the left-most panel over to form the body of the bag, aligning the cut edge of the panel with the folded edge of the flap. Upend the bag so the 2" flap is now up. Put glue on both flaps and fold them inward to form the bottom of the bag.

Crossing the Bugger-Dixon Line: Summer Time {Freebies} Printables Round Up It's been awhile since I've shared some freebies, here are some fun SUMMER printables Summer Time BBQ Collection Tutorial: Easy Tiny Envelopes Guest tutorial by Ruth Bleakley I discovered this envelope making method completely by accident when pulling soggy rain-soaked mail out of my leaky mailbox - I had a total *eureka* moment when the envelope I gingerly opened up completely unfolded at the seams revealing an envelope "template" perfectly. I've seen many envelope tutorials online, some offer downloadable templates, some show fancy paper folding techniques and some suggest specific measurements to create your own D.I.Y. envelopes. I'm going to show you how to replicate any interesting envelope that you might already have, no measuring involved! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Letter A Bookshelf Tutorial {3M DIY Starts Here} A few months ago (while I was still in the planning stages for my boys’ bedroom), I put out a plea on Facebook asking my blogging besties for help. I knew that I wanted to create a giant letter A and Z for above my boys’ beds, but I just wasn’t sure what material to use to make the letters. Fun fact: The “A” and “Z” in my blog name are in honor of my boys, Asher and Zephan. Ten different, amazingly creative women chimed in with equally awesome and different ideas. 3MDIY.com helped sponsor my maiden-bookshelf-building-experiment, and I am so grateful that they did. To save you a ton of time, push play below for a short four-minute video demonstrating some helpful hints, tips, and safety tricks. **Update: Ana has posted the plans to make the letter A bookshelf at the original 29″ height. 3M TEKK Protection Disposable Earplugs3M TEKK Protection Indoor & Outdoor Safety Eyewear3M Tekk Protection Respirator3M Tekk Protection Home Dust Mask Next, you will put on the “feet” of the letter A.
