The Talks | Interviews Disney is reanimated with films such as 'Big Hero 6,' 'Frozen' The Japan-set Marvel tale 'Big Hero 6' and the musical 'Frozen' are the latest examples of the once-flagging studio's creative metamorphosis. Concept art showcases an iconic bridge and treasured landmark of the high-tech, fast-paced city of San Fransokyo, the setting for Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Big Hero 6." (Disney) More photos By Rebecca Keegan May 9, 2013 The studio behind the animated fantasies "Bambi," "Dumbo" and '"The Lion King" has a new kind of hero tale on the way — a Marvel Comics one. "Big Hero 6" will be the first partnership between two pedigreed entertainment companies — Mickey Mouse's 90-year-old animation studio and Spider-Man's 74-year-old publisher — since the Walt Disney Co. acquired Marvel in 2009. With the release of "Frozen" in November, Jennifer Lee, who shares credit with Chris Buck, will be the first woman to direct a feature at the studio. First look: 'Big Hero 6'

Can science prove Tarantino is the best director in the world? Journalist and film critic, Charlie Gates designed a scientific formula to determine the best film director in the world. So far he’s tested Oliver Stone, Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino. Gates calls this the Picture Palace Auteur Meter, or PPAM for short. Here’s the formula: Gates breaks it all down for us by feeding Tarantino into his numbers machine. 2012 Django Unchained – 2009 Inglourious Basterds – 2007 Death Proof – 2004 Kill Bill: Vol. 2 2003 Kill Bill: Vol. 1 – 1997 Jackie Brown – 1994 Pulp Fiction – 1992 Reservoir DogsThat is eight films in 20 years, not very prolific. So, here is the PPAM Index so far:The PPAM Index1. To follow more of Gates’s PPAM, track him on The Picture Palace. Why Woody Allen Won't Stop Working Woody Allen is 77 years old. And yet as a recent Wall Street Journal profile describes, he's "so busy you could say it's a little neurotic, a little overcompensating," what with the clarinet and jazz, the columns for the New Yorker, the Broadway musical he's putting together, and, oh yeah, the motion pictures: the newest, a certain Blanchett-Baldwin vehicle called Blue Jasmine, comes out on July 26th. It'll be his 48th feature. So why does he keep making movies? Because, he likes to say, the only thing standing between him and greatness is himself. He doesn't want to be thought of as a grand old director, but, like a good entrepreneur, as a self-taught schlepper. "You know in a mental institution they sometimes give a person some clay or some basket weaving?" We've seen behavior like this before: Jerry Seinfeld, another comic genius, Intends To Die Standing Up; while Warren Buffet, who has a few dollars saved, is happy to wake up every morning to paint the canvas of Berkshire Hathaway.
