Welcome To "Bestie Row": Lifelong Friends Build Row Of Tiny Houses In The Middle Of Nowhere.
Some friendships last forever. You hear of lifelong friends often living in the same towns just so they can socialize whenever they wish, be a part of each other’s family lives, and finally grow to be the grey-haired besties who rock on the porch and talk about the “good ol’ days”. Four couples who had been best friends for 20 years decided they were going to trump living in the same town. No way were they going to let the business of life keep them from enjoying that special connection that they’d grown to love. So they decided to literally create their own “Bestie Row.” Because when you can say, “We’re going to be grey-haired friends,” you know you’ve found a bond that can only strengthen. They employed the assistance of architect Matt Garcia to make their dream come true. Via Alexander Stross They purchased land along the Llano River, just outside of Austin, Texas. At first they considered one large house. Still, they wanted a space to commune together. H/T Little Things Related:  TH Collection 3

One Car Garage Turned into Awesome Tiny House on June 13, 2015 Ever thought about turning a 1-car garage into a tiny house or micro apartment as a way to live simply and affordably? If you have, you’re not alone! But lucky for us, Travis is sharing the garage to tiny home conversion that he’s living in right now. It’s pretty awesome too because the garage door still opens! Images © TravisTutorial Just wait until you see inside… Right now Travis is using the garage door rail system to hang his clothes so that open space doubles as his closet space. In addition, there’s some built in storage in the walls too where he keeps his books and various other goodies. And yes… There’s more built-in storage (shelves) on the walls. Towards the bathroom Travis even has his own washer/dryer. Here’s a quick look at the kitchen (you can see everything better in the video down below). And finally here’s the bathroom. Friends Build a 200 Sq. Ft. Tiny Cabin in 6 Days for $6K on December 19, 2014 This group of friends decided to leave their cramped apartments in NYC, Chicago, and Raleigh to meet in a tiny town 40 minutes away from Portland, Oregon to build a tiny cabin together. The goal was to fulfill their shared dream of building a cabin in the woods. So when they got there, they worked for six days building a 200 sq. ft. tiny cabin and got it the shell done for about $6,000. For six days, we worked to turn a small clearing situated in a stand of stately Douglas Firs into a place of our own. Images © Aaron Flack and Mac Bishop I took a moment to interview the guys because I was curious about how and why they did it. An Interview with Aaron Flack, Mac Bishop and Geoff King Are you going to build any more cabins? We haven’t started planning the next one, but we know it’s going to happen. How did you guys figure out the land/lot situation? The land is Mac’s family farm. In what ways is this tiny cabin helping to improve you and your friends lives? A lot! Resources

A garden cottage on the river One of our faithful readers has sent us photos of her weekend house on the river Bille that flows through Hamburg, Germany. Marion designed the small cottage herself, and she and her husband built it over a couple of years with the help of a professional carpenter and assistance from a friend. Marion’s cottage is located in an allotment garden. Allotment gardens are typically managed by an allotment association, which divides the land into individual garden plots and assigns them to the member gardeners in exchange for a small annual payment. Some allotments don’t allow any structures apart from a small toolshed. Marion’s garden cottage is 24 m2 (258 ft2). The sleeping loft above has lots of space thanks to two dormers. Thank you Marion for sharing your garden cottage! Click a thumbnail to view a larger photo, then click on the photo to advance to the next one. 650 Sq. Ft. Prefab Timber Cabin | Home Design, Garden & Architecture Blog Magazine Prefabricated homes are increasingly popular for a variety of reasons, among them the relatively quick build time, the ecological advantages, and the flexibility they can provide across a range of budgets. Most of them can be installed in a day, cost less than any other home on the market and are welcoming and comfortable. The house has a wooden structure, which is well isolated and features a modern and airy interior. DublDom A prefabricated home built in Russia that can be installed on-site in one day. Amazing 100 Sq. Ft. Tiny House on Wheels Built by Architecture Grads I wanted to show you this tiny house on a trailer that’s in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I’ve been exchanging emails with the owners of the home and was up for sale for an asking price of $20,000 CAD. The little home was built by two architecture graduates, Lauren Aarntzen and John McFarlane. The trailer has a 5000 lb capacity and the house can actually be detached and installed onto a regular foundation if one wanted to. There are lots of things that I like about this tiny house and the first thing I’m going to point out to you is the front porch. Photos Courtesy of Lauren Aarntzen and John McFarlane I know you may have thought about downsizing before, but have you ever considered going this small? At less than 100 square feet, this house offers a queen-size bed in the loft, a bathroom, 7′ desk, and a kitchen with a double sink, stove, fridge and oven. Plus there’s a sofa and plenty of shelving and storage. Did you notice the window on the ceiling in the photo above? Floor Plan

This Amazing Tiny House Shows How To Make The Most Of Interior Space! This cute little hobbit home cost just $100 to build Dan Price's Hillside Hobbit Home For the past 25 years, adventurer and author Dan Price has lived in a series of adorable tiny hobbit-like homes on two acres of breathtaking forested land in Eastern Oregon. His most recent structure may be teeny and off the grid, but it has all the comforts of home. The best part? Price made his pint-sized abode himself, for an unreal $100! Dan Price’s adorable hobbit homes are an inspiration to anyone who years for a simpler life. The author is an advocate of minimalism and set out to show how easy it is to build inexpensive tiny homes, and live happily off-grid with few possessions. An advocate for minimal living, Price is one of many who believe tiny homes can make for a happier life, without the financial burden that can come with larger homes.

Hey you...Good morning. I hope your day is stellar.

I really like the concept of this little commune. Sharing and living, separate but close with a group kindreds. Having a community to lean on and contribute to has much appeal to me. Its almost the same as living in a close neighborhood with good and friendly folk. Challenge is that it is luck of the draw when that happens and the benefit these friends have is they get to choose their neighbors.

Adding the tiny house into the mix makes all the more attractive. However, I'd have to do something with the interior, not digging the rustic plywood look. Also, I'm much rather live somewhere more lush. Is that the ocean I hear?

Missing you much. (hug) by featherking May 13
