Berkeley, CA City Guide Today’s Berkeley City Guide comes from Kate Casolaro, jewelry designer and public relations consultant. In this guide, Kate shares the many unique and culturally interesting gems that her native Berkeley has to offer, as well as some notable restaurants and locals. Thanks, Kate, for this wonderful guide! — Stephanie Farmers’ markets, flowering bungalows and a foodie Mecca — when I moved from Boston to the Bay Area in 2009, I had no doubt in my mind that Berkeley was where I wanted to live. While famously characterized by its extremely liberal political views and foodie culture, I was excited to explore the hidden gems of this diverse place. Berkeley is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own vibe and charms that have unfolded over the years I have lived here. I also created this Google map and color-coded each of the flags on the map by neighborhood or with a location-specific icon (fork and knife for restaurants, cocktail glass for bars, etc.). Zut!

Plnnr - Itinerarios Predeterminados oakland, ca city guide Illustration by Michael Wertz Today’s city guide comes to us from Catherine Weis and Gretchen Krebs, the founders of Local Social, an art and event styling company in Oakland, California. Between Catherine’s background in graphic design and Gretchen’s experience in interior design, they can collectively curate every element of the events they host and design to provide a unique experience for their guests. Read the full guide after the jump . . . I moved to Oakland in 2000 and always thought I would move to San Francisco because I heard so many amazing things about the culture there. Oakland is experiencing a revival similar to Brooklyn, the alternative sister city to New York. Oakland in a Nutshell I’ve been praising Oakland for its culture; it would be wrong of me not to mention the variety of activities that abound in Oakland, from family-oriented wholesomeness to nightlife excitement. Looking for Something to Drink Oakland is no stranger to wine. EAT Flora: Yummy restaurant.

5 Little-Known Websites That Will Save You Time and Money When Booking Airfare Online This article is by staff writer Adam Baker. Baker recently reflected on just how much money affects our internal values. When booking airfare online, most people think of the popular online aggregation sites. You know the ones: They have the fancy commercials, catchy jingles, and washed-up celebrity pitchmen. While those sites aren’t inherently bad, there are a few well-documented problems with relying solely on these larger engines: Many of the aggregation sites neglect to include smaller, budget carriers.Larger airline companies may temporarily exclude or intentionally block these aggregation sites from fares.Short-term specials or incentive sales aren’t usually aggregated either. Obviously, there isn’t just one website capable of giving you the best deal every time. Many larger carriers make a significant amount of money off of the loyalty factor — meaning those individuals and companies who choose to fly the same airline every time for whatever reason.

Eighth wonder of the world? The stunning temples secretly carved out below ground by 'paranormal' eccentric Nestling in the foothills of the Alps in northern Italy, 30 miles from the ancient city of Turin, lies the valley of Valchiusella. Peppered with medieval villages, the hillside scenery is certainly picturesque. But it is deep underground, buried into the ancient rock, that the region's greatest wonders are concealed. Scroll down for more... Here, 100ft down and hidden from public view, lies an astonishing secret - one that has drawn comparisons with the fabled city of Atlantis and has been dubbed 'the Eighth Wonder of the World' by the Italian government. For weaving their way underneath the hillside are nine ornate temples, on five levels, whose scale and opulence take the breath away. Constructed like a three-dimensional book, narrating the history of humanity, they are linked by hundreds of metres of richly decorated tunnels and occupy almost 300,000 cubic feet - Big Ben is 15,000 cubic feet. Few have been granted permission to see these marvels.

Green Lake - An Austrian Lake That Is Used for Hiking A rare natural phenomenon turns one of Austria’s most beautiful hiking trails into a 10 meter-deep lake, for half the year. Located at the foot of the Hochschwab Mountains, in Tragoess, Styria, Green Lake is one of the most bizarre natural phenomena in the world. During the cold winter months, this place is almost completely dry, and used as a country park where hikers love to come and spend some time away from urban chaos. But as soon as temperatures rise, the snow and ice covering the mountaintops begin to melt, and the water pours down, filling the basin below with crystal-clear water. Water levels go from one-two meters at most, to over 10 meters, in the early summer. Take a look at the amazing images of the Green Lake, shot during the summer season: via Daily Mail Reddit Stumble
