Science & Unchained Dreams Even if there is only one possible unified theory, it is just a set of rules and equations. What is it that breathes fire into the equations and makes a universe for them to describe? The usual approach of science of constructing a mathematical model cannot answer the questions of why there should be a universe for the model to describe. Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. Science investigates; religion interprets. It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure.Albert Einstein The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.Isaac Asimov The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not “Eureka!” Like this: Like Loading...

How NASA might build its very first warp drive I want to see this work as much as anyone else on io9, but every time I read an article on warp drive, I expend so much mental energy trying to wrap my head around the concept that my entire left hand side goes numb. Somewhere along the line my understanding of concepts such as the nature of Spacetime is deficient. Here's the problem. When I think about the idea of expanding the conceptual framework that describes the continuum between two abstract concepts, behind a spaceship, whilst contracting the conceptual framework that describes the continuum between two abstract concepts, in front of a spaceship; all I can think of is that this like saying that when in conversation with another person, I can reach out with my hand, grasp hold of the words that are coming out of that other persons mouth and fold them in half. If someone could point me towards some legible books that I could buy that would help me understand where my understanding has gone wrong, I would be grateful. Thanks.

Adastra super yacht is a one-of-a-kind aquatic marvel | Technology News Blog A project 5 years in the making finally sails into the sunset In the world of boating, there are yachts, super yachts, and then there's the Adastra, a massive, custom built masterpiece of engineering that looks more like a spacecraft from Star Wars than an actual vehicle. Unfortunately, a new class of marine transportation hasn't yet been coined, so for the time being the 140-foot will have to reside within the "super yacht" category, though to lump it in with any other water-faring ride does a bit of a disservice to its creators at John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs. Adastra super yacht The massive vessel's unique triple hull design — also known as a "trimaran" — was based on world record-breaking boats like the Ady Gil. The ship features a master cabin as well as two guest cabins that will comfortably house a total of nine guests, crew quarters for up to six, and a plethora of deck space for taking in the sights. One Sentence - True stories, told in one sentence. Playing video games helps adults with lazy eye Here are some words that few would have thought to put together: video game therapy. Yet, a pilot study by vision researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, has found that playing video games can help improve the vision of adults with amblyopia, or lazy eye. The study found that participants experienced marked improvement in visual acuity and 3-D depth perception after spending just 40 hours playing off-the-shelf video games. A UC Berkeley pilot study suggests that video games could help treat adults with amblyopia. “This study is the first to show that video game play is useful for improving blurred vision in adults with amblyopia,” said study lead author Dr. For those who might use these findings to argue for more game time, note that no studies have shown similar benefits for people with normal vision. The study is published in the August 2011 issue of the journal PLoS Biology and is freely available online.
