Eco Emergency Shelter Built Entirely From Shipping Pallets In a brilliant example of material reuse I-Beam has created a sustainable emergency shelter built completely out of shipping pallets. Originally designed as temporary housing for refugees of the Baltic War in the nineties, the affordable and robust shelter allows families to reestablish a homestead. Pallets are ubiquitous and uniform in size, so they make ideal building blocks after tragedies like the recent floods in Pakistan. As supplies come in from throughout the world, the shipping pallets for those supplies can be erected to make walls, ceilings, and floors. I-Beam‘s Pallet House is based on the fact that pallet buildings can be erected quickly and last for years. suzeeinthecity | Just another WordPress.com site Street Art Utopia Every month a “Most Beloved” post comes up in the main stream here on Street Art Utopia, and on this page can you see them all. Vintage Mugshots from the 1920s The Sifter recently stumbled upon an incredible collection of vintage mugshots housed by the Historic Houses Trust. Many of these intriguing photographs are also accompanied by a description of the person and the crime(s) they have committed. For example, the image above of Mr. William Stanley Moore was taken May 1st, 1925. The images themselves are of excellent quality, beautifully composed and in many cases, quite artistic. 2. Albert Stewart Warnkin is listed in the NSW Police Gazette of 10 November 1920, as charged with attempting to carnally know a girl eight years old. 3. This photograph was apparently taken in the aftermath of a raid led by Chief Bill Mackay – later to be Commissioner of Police – on a house at 74 Riley Street, ‘lower Darlinghurst’. 4. When ‘Harry Leon Crawford’, hotel cleaner of Stanmore was arrested and charged with wife murder he was revealed to be in fact Eugeni Falleni, a woman and mother, who had been passing as a man since 1899. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
