ARTEFACTORYLAB architecture/urbanism/design Hallgate, Blackheath (1960) by Eric Lyons & PartnersOne of many Eric Lyons designed schemes in Blackheath, Hallgate is situated on the former Cator estate, which was created by John Cator in the 19th Century. Like most of the others, this SPAN estate of 26 flats is arranged around landscaped gardens, and features a sculpture called “The Architect in Society” by Keith Godwin. Was education also an assignment, an aim of the MoMA? Antonelli: Today the mission of MoMA is educational. Catalogues in former times were very important. Antonelli: I agree with Marx!

The upload-based social network is a haven for image-hoarders everywhere, with each Tumblr carefully curated to indulge a very specific craving, be it endangered Brutalism or decadent interior design. For architectural history fetishists, Tumblr has proven an unending boon. It hosts thousands of images with historical documentation, and takes the role that a library or archive might have 50 years ago. Other feed-based networks fulfill other needs of the architectural community, (forum, event calendar, yearbook, etc.), but Tumblr peddles in images. That's also one of its drawbacks. House Satiya by adn Architectures Here's an extension to a family home in rural Belgium by Brussels studio adn Architectures. Called House Satiya, the project features an inclined triangular skylight at one end of the pitched roof. White-painted brickwork and a black tiled sloping roof were used to tie in with existing local buildings. Photographs are by Filip Dujardin. See also: Bastogne by adn Architectures (February 2010) The following information is from the architects: The client wished to transform and extend his house to be able to accommodate a large family. The existing situation, a working house of the years '30 of 100 m ², consequently will become a resolutely contemporary house of 350 m ². The first will is to include the extension in continuity with the neighbourhood (inclined roof, black tiles, white painted bricks, etc). The extension results in a principle of envelope recovering a volume in which the included spaces are conceived like functionalized boxes.
