Visualizing Link Flow Within a Site Wouldn’t it be great to be able to visualize link flow within a website to see how links flow from one page to another? You can, by making use of a couple of free tools, and without having to code. Following is a brief tutorial on how to create a visualization of the link flow on a site. For this purpose, I will be using Xenu, which is a free tool to check for broken links on a site, and, Graphviz, an open source graph visualization tool. In order to demonstrate an example, I am considering a random restaurant website. To get started, enter a website URL in Xenu. Then run the following command on your Windows prompt screen. dot -Tpng inputfilename.dot -o outputfilename.png This should return a .PNG file as the output. Please note that you will require a lot of memory for processing large files. Visualizing link flow within a site enables you to actually see how a site is architected and helps in analyzing gaps in link flow. A.D.
Visual Business Intelligence – NodeXL: Network Visualizations in Excel This blog entry was written by Bryan Pierce of Perceptual Edge. The chances are good that you’ve seen network visualizations before, such as the one below in which the circles and octagons represent large U.S. companies and each connecting line represents a person who sits on the board of both companies. (This image was created by Toby Segaran: While these types of graphs have become more common in recent years, there’s still a good chance that you’ve never created one yourself. Using NodeXL you can import data from a variety of file formats and it will automatically lay out the visualization for you, using one of twelve built-in layout algorithms. Below, the same dataset is laid out using the Harel-Koren Fast Multiscale algorithm, which is one of NodeXL’s two force-directed algorithms. You can also manually select and position the data points (a.k.a. Once your information has been laid out, you can start exploring and making sense of it. -Bryan
Send Anonymous Email AsusXtionProSpec Visualize Your Site's Link Graph With NodeXL I would like to share a recent new tool finding that hopefully can help you to analyze your site’s linking with an easier graphic visualization. I’m a very visual person and when I get a list like this of a site’s links from Google Webmaster Tools, Screaming Frog or any other crawler I struggle to get the information I usually want as fast as I need: Don’t get me wrong: I love and happily pay for Screaming Frog and I’m thankful to have Google Webmaster Tools, but I wish to easily visualize the information I get from these tools to better analyze how the different site pages and areas are internally linked in my site for example, or which are the most externally linked to areas of my site and how they connect to each other with the information I can also get from tools like Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO. Because of this I’ve been looking for a solution for some time and I have recently found a good option to visualize a site’s linking data: NodeXL. Nice isn’t it?
