Security (U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice delivers the infamous "talking points") On Wednesday, just days after Congress held hearings claiming that the Obama administration misled the public in the aftermath of the Sep. 11, 2012 attack on an American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the White House released 100 pages of emails that seem to undermine GOP claims that the White House orchestrated a “cover-up.” The e-mails between the White House, CIA, State Department, Justice Department, and the FBI were part of an effort to draft unclassified talking points for lawmakers to use during media appearances and formed the basis of U.N. Ambassador’s Susan Rice’s prep for the Sunday morning talk shows. Collective narcissism Collective narcissism (or group narcissism) is a type of narcissism where an individual has an inflated self-love of his or her own ingroup, where an "ingroup" is a group in which an individual is personally involved.[1] While the classic definition of narcissism focuses on the individual, collective narcissism asserts that one can have a similar excessively high opinion of a group, and that a group can function as a narcissistic entity.[1] Collective narcissism is related to ethnocentrism; however, ethnocentrism primarily focuses on self-centeredness at an ethnic or cultural level, while collective narcissism is extended to any type of ingroup, beyond just cultures and ethnicities.[1][2] Some theorists believe group-level narcissism to be an extension of individual narcissism, though others believe the two to be independent of each other. The Rand Corporation: The Think Tank That Controls America By Alex Abella If you think the Internet came out of Silicon Valley, that NASA planned the first satellite to orbit Earth, or that IBM created the modern computer—think again. Each one of these breakthroughs was conceived at RAND, a shadowy think tank in Santa Monica, California. Morning Defense With Jonathan Topaz NATO DEFENDS ACCURACY OF IMAGES DEPICTING RUSSIAN FORCES ALONG UKRAINE’S BORDER: To prove the satellite photos released yesterday were taken in late March and early April of this year, NATO provided additional photos this morning that show the same areas prior to any military buildup. “The photographs, some dating from 2013, and others from early 2014, show that these areas were unoccupied prior to March 2014,” NATO said in a statement. Yesterday, NATO released a package of satellite imagery that depicted the location and type of Russian units NATO has observed along the border with Ukraine. Russian officials responded by saying the photos were old and showed an exercise conducted in 2013.

Yet nursing home occupancy has experienced a decline of almost 3 percent over the past decade. In part, this reflects a preference for staying in one’s home (“aging at home”) or in other independent living alternatives, as well as the high prices that discourage many from living in a comprehensive senior facility and keeps them at home. Yet “independent living” alternatives usually have been limited to senior-living communities, assisted-living communities, and continuing care retirement communities—all of which still require seniors to move out of their homes. So what options exist for older Americans who want some of the amenities of a senior community yet are healthy enough (and prefer) to stay at home in a mixed-age neighborhood? One interesting model is Villages, an example of the approach sometimes referred to as “senior villages.”

Pentagon remains stubbornly unable to account for its billions Hale, who retired in 2014, said in an interview that implementing any large-scale reform at the Pentagon, such as improving the reliability of its accounting software, “is like trying to push a block across sandpaper” because coordination is required between dozens of agencies, combatant commands, field activities, and military services. Other financial concerns, such as financing wars abroad while complying with legislated spending caps, were considered more urgent tasks, he said. But Hale said he does not question the need to reform the way the department keeps track of its spending, because electronic logs of Defense Department transactions are often old and supporting documentation is poorly organized. That means the department is unable to accurately account for its debts and credits at the end of each financial cycle, according to multiple reports from Hale’s office and the Pentagon’s Office of Inspector General. Press/ How the Press and the CIA Killed Gary Webb’s Career by ALEXANDER COCKBURN And JEFFREY ST. CLAIR [What follows is an extended excerpt from Chapter Two of our book Whiteout: the CIA, Drugs and the Press. AC / JSC] The attack on Gary Webb and his series in the San Jose Mercury News remains one of the most venomous and factually inane assaults on a professional journalist’s competence in living memory. In the mainstream press he found virtually no defenders, and those who dared stand up for him themselves became the object of virulent abuse and misrepresentation. The dark money ATM –> According to tax filings by an organization that funnels money to the Koch brothers’ causes, the Kochs raised at least $162 million in 2013 and 2014 and distributed that money to more than 20 different groups.

For the first time, Freedom Partners also admitted to spending money to influence elections. Freedom Partners reported that it spent $6.85 million on political activity aimed at supporting or defeating candidates for public office in 2014, including nearly $5.3 million spent directly by the organization and $1.5 million contributed to other organizations focused on electoral politics. The contributions to other organizations covers the $693,289 Freedom Partners gave to its affiliated super PAC and the $885,000 it gave to Citizenlink, the political arm of Focus on the Family. Freedom Partners described the other $5.3 million in political spending as the groups’ “own public education advertising”:
