If you remember the Halloween palette we chose for last year’s tabletop shoot, you know that welcoming dark accents was key. This year is just the opposite, as we take a sunny approach to the holiday and create a palette that you can enjoy throughout the fall. Dream Homes In designing the project, NY-based architecture firm GRADE responded to two disparate conditions of the site: the expansive views of Chesapeake Bay and the mystic wooded area on which it resided. The objective was to reconcile the client’s need for a studio in which to design and create while not rendering the space hermetic and closed off to its surroundings. GRADE brought nature’s elements indoors, establishing a foundation of earthy textures including natural mahogany wood and a curved zinc rooftop, complemented by imported materials such as Italian marble. Through thoughtful design, the house became an apparatus for filtering the views of the water, with the curved roof allowing the scale of the beachside room to expand the closer one’s proximity to the bay.

Creating Public Spaces with Attractive Urban Design A place that transmits a message through color and art, has the power to make it a symbol that represents a community and its citizens. This is a question Ingrid Fetell Lee proposes in her recent book, Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness. Lee’s quest to find out exactly what joy is and how it manifests within all of us lead her around the world to places where she discovered what she calls the “aesthetics of joy.” There were many elements that caught Lee’s attention during her travels — bright colors, patterns and objects with curved contours to name a few.

Color psychology provides a guide to how colors affect human behavior, but it is a tricky business. Colors represent a varied range of attributes and emotions for each of us based on influences from society, culture and our individual personalities. Although it is almost impossible to nail down definitions for specific colors, there are themes and trends prevalent in a range of societies and environments that give us a good idea of the powerful influence of color.

The sloping lines of the coverage, form a sloping wall that gives a movement in the facades, and the roof touch the ground. The pillars are extended and bent to the outside to form a set. Noteworthy are the colors gray to the roof type and predominantly white finishes like paint and flooring natural stones.
